How to Give Thanks

And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, Colossians 1:10-13 (NKJV)

Here it is, another Thanksgiving Holiday! How will you celebrate it today? Will it be with family, and friends? Will you be traveling or staying home? What traditions have you continued from your childhood, or what ones have you made with your own family?

What are you most thankful for? Perhaps its your family, friends, health, prosperity, simple provisions, or perhaps all of the aforementioned.

How about your relationship with God? How about your relationship with Jesus? How about the gift of the Holy Spirit? How about the fact that as a Christian, you have the blessed hope of spending eternity in peace with all those who have made that profession of faith?

Good stuff to be thankful for, amen?

As a Pastor, one of the things that brings warmth to my heart more than any other thing is when someone tells me that they have been praying for me. I am so thankful to hear this, because I know that God is working through others to strengthen my walk as a Christian.

I like the way that the Apostle Paul speaks of praying for others continually as well in the Book of Colossians. He shares how he has prayed as he tells them specifically what he has prayed for as well in chapter one. I would like to share with you this Thanksgiving by giving you a list of things that you might consider praying for in the lives of those God has laid upon your heart. Ask God to show you a brother or sister in Christ who He would want you to pray for each day. Then include the following:

1.Be thankful for their faith and changed lives.
2.Ask God to help them know what He wants them to do.
3.Ask God to give them deep spiritual understanding.
4.Ask God to help them live for Him.
5.Ask God to give them more knowledge of Himself.
6.Ask God to give them strength for endurance.
7.Ask God to fill them with joy, strength, and thankfulness.

What about those who you know and love, that havent made that profession yet? How can we be thankful for this? Well, truthfully, we can, as we can be thankful that God has put them into our lives and that He has given us the ability and the potential to love them unconditionally. We can be thankful that we are able to live Christ in our actions, and we can be thankful that we have been given the ability to pray for them continually.

Ask God to show you a non-believer who He would want you to pray for. Then include the following:

1.Be thankful for their being in your life.
2.Ask God to lead them to a place and point of despair.
3.Ask God to open their eyes to see that there is no hope in anything of this world.
4.Ask God to open their eyes to see hope in Him.
5.Ask God to remove the scales on their eyes so that they can see His truth in His Word.
6.Ask God that He would bring others into their life that know Him, and have a servants heart.
7.Ask God to give others and yourself the proper words at the proper time to speak in love and in truth.

Hey Christian, the most powerful weapon you have is prayer, speaking directly to God through Christ. Use it mightily for the kingdom, and use it continually. Bring everything to God in prayer, and give him thanks through Christ. Hes got a perfect plan, and He wants to use you in it. Prayer is where we come into alignment with His will for the lives of others, as well as our self.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTION: How are we to do everything according to Colossians 3:17?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to pray daily for others, both saved and lost?

APPLICATION: Make a list of people that the Lord has laid upon your heart. Make a commitment to pray daily for them. Watch what God does in their lives, it will amaze you&

Father, Thank You for everything that You have given to my family and myself. Thanks for Your mercy, Your love, Your sacrifice, and Your power that You have given to me abundantly. I praise You this day, and I celebrate all that You have done for my life. In Jesus precious name, amen&

    Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
