Hold Fast-Stay in The Boat!

Hold Fast-Stay In The Boat!
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one anotherand all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:25 (NIV)
Hey, What are you doing this weekend?
Has anyone every asked you this question, only to follow it up with, Would you like to go to Church with me?
I would imagine that this scenario has happened many times, and there have been many times where the answer was, no!
Some people dont want to give up their day off, for fear of sacrificing fun and family time. While others just plain dont want anything to do with Church. It could be their past experiences during childhood, or it could have been a bad experience at some church visit in their adult life as well. In either case, they arent interested.
I have spoken with a few people, who have said that the Church isnt any particular building, but it is made up of the body of believers; those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. They are absulutely right in making this statement, but it doesnt mean that we forgo meeting together as a body of believers.
I know of many people, who hear the message of salvation, and they accept the good news, but they fail to follow up with it, and they dont get involved with a good bible-teaching church, or bible study. There are others who did, but simply stopped going after a while, as they were drawn to other interest that filled their time.
We read in Acts 2 where the early church developed the sound practice of meeting together, studying Gods Word, and sharing their meals together.
They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42 (NIV)
It goes on to say in the following verses, that the believers cared for each other; they even sold their homes and distributed money wherever there was need among the body. They were together continually, and they had everything in common (Acts 2:44).
I think the reason that they had everything in common is because they thought alike. They shared the same teaching, and they did it continuously, so they had a common purpose in living and sharing the Gospel message. And the result of their faithfulness in meeting was that the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved (Acts 2:47).
Our purpose Christian is to Glorify God, and we can do this as we meet together in worship, prayer and the studying of His Word. It is through this assembly and teaching that we use it for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, (see Ephesians 4:12-13).
There is something to be said about finding a church home that gives an expositional teaching of the bible, verse by verse. Because this is how we are to develop our ideas, our thoughts, our goals, and our attitudes. God speaks to us through His Word, and we are empowered, strengthened, equipped to do every work, and taught what to beware of. It is the power of God to salvation for all who believe (Romans 1:16).
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2Timothy 3:16 (NIV)
I want to encourage you to seek the Lord in prayer. Ask Him to lead you to a church. It is usually safe to find a non-denominational Christian Church that teaches the Word verse by verse. Dont get caught up in just the emotional, but in the solid teaching of the Word. Gods Word should verify everything that a Pastor teaches; anything else is pure speculation.
Hebrews 10:25 tells us that we should be encouraging each other to attend Church, and especially as we see the Day approaching. This Day is referring to Jesus return for His church; the rapture. We are in those last days leading up to this event. Hold fast! Stay in the boat!
STUDY QUESTION: How did the new converts of the early Church respond to the gospel message as recorded in Acts 2:42?
PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you found yourself not attending Church regularly?
APPLICATION: Hey it might not be a matter of Salvation, but it is a matter of being healthy, being used, and being productive in Gods kingdom.
Father, Thank You for allowing us to live in a time where we can freely meet and worship You. I pray that You will guide all of Your children to attend a healthy Church so that they might join in serving others and learning more about You. In Jesus precious name, amen..
    Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
