Do You Really Want to Know?

Do You Really Want to Know?
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of Gods one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. John 3:18-19 (NIV)
Why is it that people are so quick to deny God and His son? They seem to have a multitude of reasons for there disbelief, but usually all of these excuses are based on their view of someone else and that persons inability to live according to what they say they believe. In other words, they will point to others and cry foul! or you hypocrite! and use a believers stumbling in sin for an excuse not to believe. And yet there are others that will tell you that they dont believe, and they will not even begin to look into the possibility of finding the truth.
There are many people who educate themselves with knowledge and yet they wont pick up a bible and study it. They wont even look at it from a historic perspective even though science and archeology have proven it to be valid. And yet they have many opinions on things that they no nothing about. The Apostle Paul warned Timothy against these people who falsely call what they posses, knowledge.
Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 1Timothy 6:20 (NIV)
How can so many people not even take the time to look into something that can determine where they will spend eternity?
I believe the answer is simple: People dont look because they dont want to know. Thats right, they dont want to know the truth. They would rather just be ignorant and give an opinion about what they think and leave it at that.
The truth of the matter is that people dont want to know because it would make them accountable for their actions. They would have to acknowledge that the lifestyle that they are living is not in Gods will. And therefore they would have to stop those things that they know to be wrong; change their lifestyle. They stand condemned by their unwillingness to accept a free gift from God. God loved them so much that He sent His only begotten son to die for their sin, and they dont even want to know Him, or have anything to do with Him.
Jesus tells us that Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. John 3:20 (NIV)
The unbeliever knows that the light of God will expose his sinful lifestyle, and so like a cockroach, they stay in the dark attempting to hide from the light of Gods word. There might be questions that are very real, and that need to be answered to an unbeliever, but they have to be asked first. Simply not knowing the answer is no reason to continue to live in sin. Failure to seek God for any reason is just that, a reason, and it is failure, plan and simple.
I always make it a point to ask those who dont know Jesus as Lord and Savior Do You Really Want to Know? And if they can be truthful enough to say, yes, then I point them to the Word of God. I will tell them, I have always believed, if you really want to know God, and His truth, then seek Him out, and read His Word. I encourage them to ask Him to teach them everything that He would want them to know about what they are reading. God will show us what we need to know and He will reveal Himself to those who seek the truth.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
STUDY QUESTION: What does John 3:18-19 say about those who do not believe in Jesus?
PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you know of people in your life that dont want to know anything about Jesus or the Bible?
APPLICATION: Start to pray for them daily. Pray that their eyes would be opened to the truth. It may be their last chance at eternal life, and you might be the only relationship with Christ that they will ever experience.
Father, help me to speak wisely to those who dont know You. Help me be the Christian that You desire me to be in these peoples presence. May they see You when they look at me. May You fill me today with Your spirit so that I shine as light unto this dark world. In Jesus name, amen&
