Led By The Spirit
Children of God

I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stumble. Proverbs 4:11-12 (NKJV)

I don't know about you, but my life can get real busy.  In fact, I have found myself getting too busy.  This business comes at a cost as I can wear down and become fatigued and lose my balance.  Balance has to be one of my major prayers every time I am asked by someone, "What can I pray for you?"  The enemy knows if he can keep me too busy I will eventually burn out and he can effectively take me out of the game of being used by God.

So to combat this I try real hard to allow the Holy Spirit lead me in all I do for God.  And since we are to do everything as if we are doing it for God Himself (Col. 3:17, 23; 1 Cor 10:31), then this means I am to allow the Holy Spirit to lead me in everything I do.  The fact is every Christian man and woman should practice being led by the Spirit, because this is a sure sign of our being a child of God.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14 (NKJV)

The problem with becoming so busy is we can schedule the Holy Spirit right out of our lives.  It's true!  We can put so much on our "To do list" we don't have any time left in our day for anything else coming our way.  This all but makes those impromptu divine appointments with others all but impossible.

I have found God has done the most amazing things when I have had conversations with people I bump into.  It can be someone I know or somebody newit doesn't matter.  All I know is God orchestrates these meetings if I will make myself available.  I find I am given an opportunity to share some scripture I read earlier in my devotional time, or perhaps simply pray for someone who needs encouragement.  But this couldn't happen if I make my schedule too full.

Q:    How can we alleviate our schedule being too full when there is so much to do?

Stop and take a look at your schedule and find out where you can better use your time, or network with others to alleviate some of the responsibilities.  We will have those times where being busy isn't an option, but more times than not it is our choice so we must choose wisely.

I want to encourage you to seek the Lord in prayer and ask Him if there are things you should be cutting out of your schedule.  Leave time for Him to work in your life, whether it is taking a walk and spending more time with Him, or finding a place you can just sit and listen.  Whether God is leading you to minister to someone or whether He is simply ministering to you, it will be time well spent.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Romans 8:14 what can we learn about those who are being led by the Spirit of God?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you allowing time in your schedule for God to use you in the lives of others?

APPLICATION: Seek to take the time to invest into others spontaneously.  Ask God to bring those who He would have you talk with into your life today.

Father, thank You for bringing people into my life who invested into me when I needed it.  Thank You for giving us Your Holy Spirit to lead us in all of our ways.  I pray for Your leading today in everything I do Lord.  Help me to know when I am to stop and invest into another person Lord?  I ask this in Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
