The Conductor

The Conductor
Being a Part of God's Orchestra

For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: Romans 12:4-6 (NKJV)

I attended a play recently at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.   As I was watching the play from the front row I could peak over the edge of the stage and have a great view of the orchestra pit.  Every sort of musician - from string to brass - sat down under a mesh screen with only the conductor visible to the viewing audience.

As I looked down at each person playing I could see they had a monitor set before them so they could view the conductor no matter where they were situated.  This allowed them to keep their eyes on him continuously while being able to look at the sheets of music to be played.

One motion from the conductor signaled the beginning of the play, and the musicians began to play beautifully.  Every note was correct and they worked in perfect unity.

It didn't take long for me to see the same picture with regard to our Lord.  In much the same way He is our conductor, and as Hebrews says we are to be looking unto Him.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith...Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)

God has given us His sheet music to play (The bible) by and if we follow it perfectly we too will work in perfect unity with other believers in the body of Christ and we will produce something very beautiful to see and hear.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Each of us has been given a unique gift and is to be used to serve the body.  Each of us can be a part of God's orchestra, or we can simply play from our own sheet of music - it is our free choice. I want to encourage you today to open God's sheet music (The bible) and begin to study the notes.  Ask Him to lead you in applying them to your life.  I promise you it will be music to your ears.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Hebrews 12:1-2 what are we to keep our eyes fixed upon?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you studying and playing the music sheets God has provided in His Word, or are you winging it and playing by your own?

APPLICATION: Keep your eyes upon the Lord today and simply abide by what His Word says to do.

Father, Thank You for Your mercy and guidance in my life.  Thank You for giving me Your Word to show me how to live.  Help me today to remember what I have read and remind me so I can make the proper choices today.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
