The Stress Test

Then the LORD will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other godsgods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known. Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. Deuteronomy 28:64-66 (NIV)

Wow! This is the promise God gave the Israelites in the book of Deuteronomy. If they did not obey His commands, and revere His glorious name, He let them know that He would send upon them fearful plagues, harsh and prolonged disasters and severe and lingering illnesses. Their life would be filled with anxiety and that they would live in a constant suspense, being filled with dread. He said that their eyes would be tired because they would constantly be longing for something that they had seen. What a horrible way to live life.

It sure sounds like a lot the generation that we live in.? How do people become so confused? Does God just make people this way?

For God is not the author of confusion but of peace&1Corinthians 14:33 (NKJV)

For those of us who earnestly seek God, we can be sure that we will have the ability to know whether we are in Gods will or not. When we stray from God, or His written Word, or act independently, seeking our own will, we will most assuredly find ourselves in the center of confusing times, and this too, brings that dreaded anxiety to our lives. We see it all around us within the lives of people; they are Nervous Nellies and they seem to act in accordance with their unstable, non-peaceful mindset.

Anxiety can destroy our lives, as it causes us to speak in fear or anger and it usually will cause our bodies to break down with stress, which leads to virtually every known disease including cancer. It is a strong spiritual barometer and can give us clear indication that we need to stop what we are doing and seek God immediately. When we are within Gods will, we will have a peace that transcends all understanding, because we have prayed about it, and it is that God-given peace that lets us know that the decision is correct.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

Lets make a deal with ourselves shall we? Lets agree not to turn our backs on God. Lets agree to respect His name and His Word. Lets ask Him to give us peace when we are in His perfect will, and to take that peace away when we are acting too independent of Him, or when we are about to make a wrong choice so that we know where we need to be, and what to do.

God will guide us in all understanding and lead us in all righteousness if we let Him. Why wouldnt we want that?

STUDY QUESTION: What should we be anxious about? What should we do if we find ourselves anxious?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Can you see the effects of not following God in the lives of people that you know? Can you see uneasiness in their life?

APPLICATION: Seek God in all that you do. Dont make independent choices, because they will be a future confession of sin in your life if you do.

Father, Thank You for showing me clearly all the things that dont belong in my life by simply allowing me to have anxiety when I am doing them. Things such as sin, doubt, worry and fear dont belong, and I surrender them to You today. Help me to remember that You are much bigger than these things, and that You have a perfect plan for every situation as long as I trust in You. In Jesus name, amen&

    Be Blessed, Scott
