The Pure Milk of God's Word

The Pure Milk of God's Word
Fueling Our Christian Walk

Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 1 Peter 2:1-3 (NKJV)

It is hard to imagine a world without automobiles.  Gas powered engines made their way into carriages in the late 1800's and the evolution of the automobile has continued ever since.   Most of us in America have become so accustomed to using our cars in our daily lifestyles that a result of this dependency is the price and availability of fuel can have a great affect on what we do.  The simple truth is without the fuel, the engine won't provide power and the car isn't much good for anything.

The Lord gave me a great reminder of the simplicity of this truth as well as an application with regard to our spiritual walk.  Let me explain.  I was speaking with my good friend Aaron recently who was recovering from injuries sustained in an accident. He was excited because he had just shared his testimony with his brother whom he hadn't seen in years.  Aaron was prompted by God to share the great things Jesus was doing in his life, and he soon began to show his brother his new study Bible.

During Aaron's stay in the hospital he was reading his Bible regularly, and as a result of his reading he was being fueled and empowered in his Christian walk.  As I was listening to Aaron share this story with me, the Lord gave me a distinct picture of a V-Twin crankshaft assembly containing two connecting rods -  each with a piston attached to the top of them.

After seeing this picture within my mind, the Lord prompted me to share it with Aaron, and then to speak these words.  "Visualize the internal parts of this engine.  Now know this - they are of no use unless they are fueled."  "When there is fuel, they will develop great power and be used in accordance with how they were designed."  Tell Aaron, "Your mind and heart are the engine - My Word is your fuel, your heart and mind are to be fueled daily, and as a result I will give you great power in your witness and in your Christian walk."

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

I shared the message with Aaron and I thought about the simplicity of this message - how it really applies to each and every one of us as Christians.  We too, must be fueled with God's Word, each and every day.  His Word is very strong - transforming us (Rom. 12:1-2) and empowering us to speak truth and life.  It is our responsibility to be fueled continuously with God's Word - we must abide in it so we can be effective and full of power in our Christian walk.  Without God's fuel, we like the automobile, are of no use.

"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." John 15:5 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you today to be fueled with the pure milk of God's Word.  Empower your life to be more like Jesus - choosing to be used in a greater capacity for kingdom purposes.  Choose today to be His vessel - willing to be used.
