It's Not About The Numbers

Its Not About The Numbers
You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 2Timothy 2:1-3 (NIV)
I accepted Christ at the age of 17 on a warm summer Sunday evening in Riverside California. Pastor Greg Laurie had just given an invitation for anyone who wanted to give their life to the Jesus and make Him their personal Lord and Savior. Before I knew what happened, I had my hand in the air and was walking up front with tears running down my face, making an outward confession of an internal decision.
I continued to attend Sunday nights for a long time and at the end of each service another group of people would make that same eternal commitment, and like me, they would have streams of tears running down their faces.
I thought to myself, I dont know if I could ever do that like Pastor Greg. I dont know if I could speak to thousands of people and have that impact upon their lives. Im sure that many of you have seen the Greg Lauries and Billy Grahams and have thought the same thing to yourselves. Perhaps it was just the opposite for others where they had a deep desire to do this and then some.
Funny thing is though, Greg Laurie wasnt converted at a big church or at the end of a great message from a renowned Pastor, he accepted Christ because of one person coming up and talking to him. Thats the way God usually works, one-on-one. Ministry flows through relationships and the willingness of each person to simple share with someone else, what they have been given freely. You will never know the impact that you could have on the kingdom of God unless youre willing to let God work through you.
Let me give you an example of this. There was a lady named Henrietta Mears who was asked to teach a Sunday school class back in 1928. This in itself could have made many stop, turn and go in another direction. But Henrietta was faithful to what God asked her to do and she persevered. What resulted from that act of faithfulness at the First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood Ca. was amazing. The 400 students who attended classes within the church grew from 400 to 4,000 in size.
Later, she went on to establish Gospel Light Publishing and Forest Home Christian Conference Center, which is located in the mountains of So Cal. Her influence was huge and 400 people ended up going into full-time Christian service as a result. Two of those influenced by Henrietta were Bill Bright who is the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ International; and Billy Graham who is one of the greatest evangelists of all time.
We need to remember that it is never our talent or abilities that result in greatness, it is God who is responsible for everything that brings glory to His name. We are just people that He has chosen to be blessed to participate. And our only decision is whether or not we will allow Him to utilize our lives for what He wants to do.
Are you willing to allow Him to use you? Are you willing to share what He has done for you, and what He wants to do for that person that you are speaking with? Would you be willing to let the Holy Spirit come upon you in full power, to enable you to speak in love, truth and boldness? If you have answered yes, then know that you have a chance every day. Simply talk to God each morning and tell Him that you want His Spirit to fill you and for Him to use you in sharing the Gospel message.
I want to encourage you to not get caught up in the numbers. Its not about leading millions to Christ, its about being willing to share the Gospel with one person at a time.
STUDY QUESTION: Can you see Pauls message to Timothy clearly in the Scriptures above?
PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to be used by God?
APPLICATION: Stay in the Word daily. Ask God to use you each day in the lives of those He has placed around you. Ask for His words and the proper divine appointments to share with others.
Father, Thank You for allowing me to share this message that you have laid upon my heart. Thank You for having someone share it with Pastor Greg Laurie who shared it with me. May you bring someone into my life today and allow me to share what You have laid upon my heart, and may it be a blessing to them. In Jesus precious name, amen&
    Be Blessed, Scott
