Cramming For A Final

Cramming for a final

Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth. Psalms 73:9 (NIV)

I was conversing a couple of days ago with my good friend, Diamond Dave, who is a fellow brother in the Lord and he shared with me an interesting thought. He was talking about how he heard Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones singing a song and the lyrics caught his ear. So he went online and plugged in the name of the song, which was titled, May the Good Lord Shine His light on you.

He noted that it in fact had lyrics that were worded as if Mick might be softening from his previous years of throwing caution to the wind, and in fact, ole Mick might just be thinking about the bigger picture. He thought to himself that in either case, it was a far cry from his rebellious years of singing songs such as sympathy for the devil.

What happens to us human beings, as we get older? Do we suddenly get wiser, and see the error of our youth? Do we finally realize and accept that there is something more to life? Do we just flat wake up and realize that there is so little time left and suddenly care to make use of it? Why is it when were busted down and fatigued and have nothing left to offer, that we will then listen and accept the truth about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit?

We finally crack open that Bible that has been collecting dust in the corner of the room and we begin to start the process of trying to understand what it is all about. For some it can be overwhelming. And they put it back down and slide back to their wondering ways, never finding the narrow gate to freedom from the bondage of sin, and the path that leads to everlasting life.

For others it is like opening a new gift and it is exciting as they scour the pages and learn many of the answers to lifes questions, all the while wondering, why didnt I do this years earlier?
Not able to get enough of this truth they start to study the Word with the frenzy that hasnt been felt, or a zeal that hasnt been applied in years. Its as if theyre cramming for a final.

Those who are far from you will perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you. But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds. Psalms 73:27-28 (NIV)

I thank the Lord that His acceptance of me is not based on any Religion, or the keeping of a set of rules, and the patronage of a specific Church organization. I thank Him that it is not based on a set number of manifested works that would somehow show that I am worthy. I thank God that I dont have to suddenly wake up and freak out because I am going to have to pass an exam to spend eternity with Him. I wont have to cram for any final.

It is a relationship that God wants you to have with Him. And that relationship is through Jesus Christ. He loves you and He died on the cross for your sins, that you might have that relationship, and have direct access to the Father. There are many people who dont want any relationship with God throughout their lives, or at least not until their lives have been spent on what they want; feeding their fleshly desires and being totally selfish with what has been given to them.

I am totally thankful that we have a God who doesnt keep score and deny us when we finally come earnestly to Him asking for forgiveness of this type of life. I pray that He will allow me to be used in a mighty way with what I have left. It is my desire to share this great news with as many people as possible.

How about you? Have you accepted the free gift of salvation? If you have, are you sharing what has been given to you?

We can do that by simply loving others and being what God has asked us to be to them. By sharing the Word and the love that has been graciously given to us. May God richly bless you and yours today in all that you do for Him. I pray that the Holy Spirit will come upon you in full power, enabling you to do all that He has planned to do on you, in you, and through you today. And may all glory be given to God&

STUDY QUESTION: What happens to those who deny God and walk away from Him?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you allowing God to use you in every aspect of your life? Or are there places that you have not given over to Him?

APPLICATION: Start fresh today-share the Gospel with someone. Take a chance and let God work through you in a mighty way.

Father, Thank You for Your continued work within my life. Thank You for all that You are doing and will do in changing me from a selfish person into the selfless person. May my life reflect who You are and may it be a blessing to all who know me. In Jesus name, amen&

    Be Blessed, Scott
