Glory To God!

Glory to God!

...although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Romans 1:21 (NKJV)

I can often think of this scripture here in Romans when I see people giving glory to each other for the things they accomplish in this world.  "I just want to thank so and so, because without them, I could have never done this..." Don't get me wrong; there is a place and time to acknowledge and thank others for their help, encouragement, and support, which is after all the proper thing to do.  But then again, there are many times when all the glory is given to man and not a word is mentioned about God.

Obviously a non-believer isn't going to acknowledge God, but there are many who believe they are saved who would never mention to God, and for others it is something like, "I'd like to thank the man upstairs..."

To many, this concept of thanking God or acknowledging Him is very foreign, which is sad because He is, after all, the one who creates everything, gives us freedom to do everything, and is responsible for all of our gifts and abilities.  So what gives?

And then there's the misplaced worship of God's creation - its when we get so wrapped up in worshiping various things such as nature or even the animals God has created more than worshiping Him.   It is idolatry when we would rather worship the creation rather than the creator.  This false worship is widely practiced throughout the world and it isn't just relegated to uneducated people - there are many highly intelligent people by societies standards who choose to participate in this false worship.

Q:    Why would highly educated people turn to idolatry?

A:    Idolatry begins when people reject what they know about God.  Instead of looking to Him as the Creator and sustainer of life, they see themselves as the center of the universe.  They soon invent their form of what they feel God should be, which are in reality, reflections of their own selfish ways of thinking.

Unfortunately, many times these people create little false gods out of the created things and they begin to worship them instead of the God of the Bible. Its not just pets and the great outdoors that get turned into gods, it can be goals, or things pursued, such as money, power, or comfort.  Truth be told it can be just about any created thing being worshiped, rather than God.

We, as Christians, must guard ourselves from both false worship and not giving God his rightful honor.  We should continuously be examining our priorities and asking ourselves,

Q:    Am I putting anything in a higher priority than my Lord, and am I giving all glory to God for His many blessings?

Regardless of what we may be going through - even if it is trials and tribulations we need to know without a doubt, God has a plan.  We need to hold onto our faith and trust Him, because His plan is perfect.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)

Hey Christian, I want to encourage you today to take your eyes off of what you don't have and begin to look at the many great things God has done and is doing in your life.  Take the time to give Him a shout out in praise.  Hey Father, thanks for all You do for me; thanks for my family, my health, my food, my home, my clothes, and for Your mercy and unfailing love.

STUDY QUESTION:  According to Romans 1:21 what happens to those who don't acknowledge God?

PERSONAL INVENTORY:  Have you found yourself talking more to God about the things you don't have versus thanking Him for the things you have already been given?

APPLICATION:  Spend some time talking to God today.   Share with Him how grateful you are for what He has done for you.  Then share with others what He has done, starting with your salvation and peace of mind.

Father, thanks for everything You have done for me and are doing in my life.  You truly are the Lord of my life and I give You all the praise and glory for everything You have allowed and graced me with.  Give me a divine appointment with whomever You desire today so I may share with them and bring Glory to Your name.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
