Finding True Fulfillment and Satisfaction

The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways, But a good man will be satisfied from above. Proverbs 14:14 (NKJV)

Have you ever had the desire to go out and buy a new car simply because you are no longer content with the one you have? It doesn’t just have to be a car — it can be looking for a new house, hobby, or career.  And for some it can permeate into their relationships as they look for a new friend or even a new spouse.

All too often we can find ourselves looking for something, or someone, in an attempt to fill our emptiness, alleviate our loneliness, satisfy our cravings, or possibly even to meet legitimate needs illegitimately.  We look to those things we find physically gratifying to our flesh, only to inevitably find these things don’t bring a lasting fulfillment within us either.  Soon the pattern starts over and we are out looking for the next temporary satisfaction.

Truth is, there is no affection or affirmation truly fulfilling to us other than what God provides.  We will never find the satisfaction in any other relationship that we will find in God. We will not find true lasting satisfaction in cars, food, sex, or money — it is only in God.  And yet our flesh will tend to continue to attempt to find it in other things.  It is like going to a buffet and gorging yourself until your stomach aches and then returning once your food has had a chance to settle.  This is exactly what Solomon had discovered and wrote about in Ecclesiastes.

He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase.  This also is vanity. Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NKJV)

So, how can we find true satisfaction in God alone?  We must first decide within our mind to fully surrender to God, and allow Him to fill up the emptiness we have deep within us in our core being.  This means fixing our mind upon Him, His Word, and seeking His Will.  It means having a relationship with Him primarily.  As we do this we will naturally be inclined to seek His Kingdom and His righteousness within our life.  As we do this we will find everything else will be added unto us (Matt. 6:33), and we will be filled with His righteousness.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you today — if you find yourself unsatisfied in some aspect of life, then seek God and hunger for His righteousness, and you will be filled and satisfied.  Make it your goal to find your satisfaction in Him alone.  When you do this you will find yourself filled with God’s joy and peace. You will also find yourself being satisfied and content in all things — knowing God is in control and has a plan for you in every situation.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Matthew 5:6 what promise has Jesus given to those who hunger and thirst for righteousness?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you hunger and thirst for God’s righteousness within your life?

PRACTICAL APPLICATON: Seek the Lord and His righteousness today for your life.  Choose to become satisfied.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Father, Thank You for showing me how I may become satisfied.  Lord I confess there are times when I have looked for satisfaction in the temporary things of this world instead of You.  I praise You, for You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with the Joy of Your presence.  Help me to remember this when I am tempted to find satisfaction in other things.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…
