The Love of The One Who Leads

A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. Prov. 16:9 (NKJV)

Oswald Chambers aptly stated, “Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.”  I was reminded of this great quote when a friend of mine sent me an E-Card once with these words boldly emblazed at the top, “DO YOU TRUST ME? ...Proverbs 3:5-6.”

I smiled when I saw this, because I know that my friend keeps a little red business-sized card that has this same question on one side, and on the opposite side it has the Scripture of Proverbs 3:5-6. It is actually a card I handed out many years ago to everyone at our Men’s Study at church. I keep one of these cards as well upon my visor in my jeep and truck, and I often look up just to read it.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths. Prov. 3:5-6 (NKJV)

It can be easy to trust God when things are going great in our life, but when they become challenging, that’s where the rubber meets the road, so to speak.

Placing our faith in God means we may not know where we are being led at all times, but we still trust Him — knowing and believing He is in control and is the One doing the leading. I believe it is in our trusting God with every part of our life — even when we don’t get what we hoped for — it’s trusting His will to be better than what our will is, and trusting that His blessings will far exceed our wildest expectations.

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer,

The Holy One of Israel:

“I am the LORD your God,

Who teaches you to profit,

Who leads you by the way you should go. Is. 48:17 (NKJV)

That’s what happens when we know and love the One who is truly leading.  I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.

STUDY QUESTION: According to the Scriptures contained within this devotional, what can we learn about God leading us?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you allowing God to lead you in everything you do?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Choose to seek the Lord for His leading rather than choosing to follow the lost sheep down the wrong path.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Father, thank You for watching out for me, and for guiding me on the proper paths (Ps. 23:2-3).  Father, I am sorry for those times where I have doubted Your leading, or worse yet, where I have chosen not to follow.  Help me to clearly see Your path for my life.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…
