A Choice To Believe

…and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power. Ephesians 1:19 (NKJV)

Everybody looks forward to something, and for Christian men and women it should be our looking forward to being in the presence of God in Heaven.  For some, they would say, “Heaven is the Promised Land,” but the fact is, we don’t have to wait to go to Heaven to live in the Promised Land. This is because the Promised Land is not Heaven — it is right here, and it is available where we live.  Some who may be reading this may be saying, “How can this be the Promised Land? There is so much sin, and suffering?”

Well, we must understand the Promised Land of the Old Testament wasn’t what most of us would think of Heaven as either. It was actually a place of sin and suffering as well — there would be wars fought there and people would die. The Promised Land was much more than a certain place to live — it had more to do with a way to live.  And it required one to believe in God’s promises and to walk in faith.

God had used Moses to lead the Israelites out of the bondage of Egypt, with the intent to take them to a place they could live abundantly — it was their “Promised Land.” God had done many miraculous acts to get their attention and to capture their hearts, just so they would/could believe, and He had so much more to offer them so that they could live productive, happy, and peaceful lives, but they chose not to believe. In fact, they refused to believe God was this good, and that He would abundantly bless them.

We have the same opportunity today as God’s children, as the Israelites did under the leadership and guidance of Moses. We can choose to receive God’s blessings and equipping so that we can begin to live in our Promised Land today. All that we must do is seek to understand God’s Word, abide in what God has told us to do, and choose to walk in faith. In truth, we must believe God wants to bless us in spite of ourselves — not because of who we are or what we have done, but in spite of who we are, and in spite of what we have done. God has given us everything we need to live this life right now.

…as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:3-4 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 2 Peter 1:3-4, what have we been given by God’s divine power?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you believe God wants to bless you today to live victoriously?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Choose to receive the blessings God has given to you.  Choose to believe in His promises, and allow Him to empower you to walk in truth and love.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Father, thank You for giving me all things that pertain to life and godliness.  Help me to see any area where I am not choosing to believe in the freedom and power You have given me.  Open my eyes to see Your truth as it pertains to my life today. In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Blessings upon your day, Scott
