Serving With All Your Heart
5/23/2018

"Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.  And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26-28 (NKJV)

I have the utmost respect for our men and women who serve in our armed forces.  Each of them chooses to serve willingly, not begrudgingly or out of necessity.  Each one of them has voluntarily signed up to serve in one of the many branches of the military service, such as, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, including the Coast Guard, and National Guard.

What I find interesting is if you were asking most of them, “Why do you serve?”  They would answer, “I do it for my country.” And many of them would also answer, “For God and Country.”

Each soldier has personal reasons why they serve as well, including family, friends, and to protect and rescue those in need from tyranny or oppression.  Even so, serving these people in need is still a byproduct of their serving God and Country.

Serving is the basis of our ministry as Christians; we can clearly see this by Jesus’ teachings.  If we have an aspiration to be viewed as “great” in God’s eye, we must be willing to be a servant.

…What does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, Deuteronomy 10:12 (NKJV)

According to Deuteronomy 10:12, we are to serve God first and foremost.  And we are to serve Him with all of our heart and soul.

When we serve God first and foremost, then others are blessed by our acts of love and obedience to Him and to His Word.  As we do this we will find we will have a proper heart to serve others, and to do so as if it were being done for God.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.  Ask God to open your eyes to see His opportunities for serving those who are a part of your life.  Remember every act of service is an act of love for the Lord, and He is being glorified when you serve others in love.

Q:  Do you desire to serve God with all your heart and soul?

If you answered, ‘Yes’ then I want to encourage you to seek God to show you how you can serve others better. Ask Him—

· Lord, show me how I can better serve my spouse and family today

· Lord, show me how I can better serve my employer today

· Lord, show me how I can better serve my neighbors today

· Lord, show me how I can better serve my church body today

STUDY QUESTION: According to Deuteronomy 10:12, what does God require of us?

PERSONAL INVENTORY:  Are you willing to acknowledge and implement what God has asked of you according to this verse?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Choose to serve God with all of your heart and soul today.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for the opportunities You have given me to serve others.  Help me today to determine which ones I am to participate in.  Empower me and equip me to serve others to the best of my abilities.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
