God Knows Exactly What We Need
2/15/2018

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)

Have you ever felt as though God was holding back from giving you something better?  It may seem like a strange notion, but I think the enemy attempts to get us to think this way when we look at others and perceive they are more blessed, or have been given greater gifts and abilities.  This temptation has been around since Satan lied to Eve in the Garden of Eden.  God had told Adam if he ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil he would die (Gen. 2:17), but Satan responded by telling Eve, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Genesis. 3:4-5).

Satan knew if he could get Adam and Eve to believe that God was holding back, then they might disobey God and attempt to better their lives — but their disobedience would cost their lives.  Instead of confessing his sin to God Adam chose to blame both God and Eve. He tells God, “The woman You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate” (see Gen 3:12).

It is interesting to me how when we do wrong we can attempt to justify our reasons for doing the things we have done, and it seems like a silly thing to do in blaming God for one's sin, but Adam isn’t the only one to do this.  Proverbs 19 speaks of this.

People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the LORD. Proverbs 19:3 (NLT)

I think it is important for us to understand the fullness of Satan’s lie to Eve, and of his lies to us.  Life didn’t get better for Adam and Eve by partaking in what was forbidden, it got worse.  God never held back what was good for them and He isn’t holding anything back from us either.  God knows exactly what we need, and He will be faithful to supply those needs abundantly through His Son Jesus.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.  Take those tempting thoughts from the enemy captive and cast every one of them down when they come against the knowledge of God (2 Cor. 10:5).

STUDY QUESTION:  According to 2 Corinthians 5:21 what gift did God give us to account for our sin?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you found yourself shifting blame to others for poor choices on your part?

PRATICAL APPLICATION: Choose to be truthful before the Lord and others and confess your sin.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for not holding back the things I need.  Thank You for Your provision in every aspect of my life.  Lord, I am sorry for the times where I have doubted in those provisions.  Lord, I place my faith in You alone this day for all my needs.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…
