Through The Eyes of God

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.  I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. Psalms 139:13-14 (NKJV)

I remember a few years ago, my wife and I took a couple of days off and we went up to Bishop, California.  We took our Jeep and a couple of fishing poles and decided to go spend some time being by ourselves, to relax and be refreshed.  After just one day of cruising around the back roads, checking out the vast quantities of lakes and streams, all we could say was, “Wow, what an amazingly beautiful place!”

We had been through Bishop and the surrounding towns several times on the way to Mammoth or Tahoe over the last 30 years, but we were always in a hurry to get to our destination, so we never really took the time to see what was in the surrounding areas of these communities.   But as we continued to dig a little deeper, we discovered there was so much more to see than what can be seen on the surface or even after a few days of investigating.

As I thought about this I couldn’t help but draw a parallel to our own lives, as Christian men and women. Some may look at us and not really see who we are in Christ — they may just look to the surface to make their determination of what lies deep inside us.  But not our Lord—as He sees everything. To God we are beautiful because He sees us in Christ.  He knew us before He formed us in the womb (Jer. 1:5).

There may even be times where we glance in the mirror and we find we don’t like what we see, as we may find ourselves discouraged or depressed.  This can happen as we face tough challenges, or we get tired of fighting what we believe is a losing battle.  But we need to understand God knows what His plans are for our life (Jer. 29:11), so when He looks at us He sees the finished product of our transformed lives in His Son.  He knows the challenges we are facing, and we are worth so much more than this.  He sees us in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you today to try and look at yourself through the eyes of God.  Look at yourself as being in Christ.  God loves you and He has a perfect plan for your life. Simply put; to Him you are beautiful.  Think about this the next time the enemy attempts to steal your joy and happiness.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, what happens to all the sin and the old junk of our lives once we have made a profession of faith in Jesus and confessed Him to be our Lord?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you believe you are beautiful to God?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: If you are being tempted to believe you are the sum of your past actions, then renounce this lie, repent of any sinful behavior and begin to walk in newness of life today.  You’re beautiful!

PRAYER: Father, thank You for loving me unconditionally. Thank You for wrapping me up with the righteousness of Jesus and viewing me as a new creation in Him.  Help me to remember this truth when the enemy attempts to lie to me and tempt me to view myself as something less.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
