Where Are You?

The eyes of the LORD are everywhere keeping watch on the wicked and the good Prov. 15:3 (NKJV)

So here’s the setting – It’s the Garden of Eden, just after Adam  had sinned, and God is calling out to him, “Where are you?”   Adam is attempting to hide.  This could be the first recorded instance of the game “Hide and seek.” Try as he may, there was no way Adam could ever successfully hide from God, nor can we.

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.. Hebrews 4:13 (NKJV)

God knew exactly where Adam was, and what he had done.  God might as well have said, “Adam, where are you at spiritually?” because this was really what God was trying to get him to identify withIn essence, God was giving Adam a chance to confess his sin to Him — knowing the confession of his sin would loosen the grip it now had upon Adam's life.

God had seen everything Adam did, just as He watches our every move.  He doesn’t watch us with the primary intention of tracking our sin for the purpose of punishment — He watches like a loving parent watches their child, helping us to make good choices, protecting us, and even being there for us to turn to when we do make poor decisions.

Truth be told, none of us are any better than Adam, and we all have made poor choices at times within our Christian walk.  We should know when this happens God won’t be there to ask us “Why did you do this?” or “How could you do that?” but simply “Where are you right now spiritually?”

I want to encourage you to remember, God is our caring father and He is a loving parent. He wants us to come to Him, even when we have chosen poorly, and especially when we are being tempted by the evil one to run and hide. Let’s not allow sin to get a hold of our life. Let’s get right with God and confess our sin for what it is.  Let’s make it our commitment to come in agreement with His will for our life in every situation.  As we do this we will find we feel so much better, and we will be set free from the bondage of our sin.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Hebrews 4:13 what must we do with the things we have done?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you found yourself hiding from God – not wanting to spend time with Him when you have sin in your life?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Talk with God and lay all of your struggles and failures at His feet.  Allow Him to clean up these areas in your life. He cares and He is ready to do it now.  Why wait?

PRAYER: Father, thank You for caring enough to come and look for us and show Your love for us. Thank You for forgiving me of the garbage I have been a part of, and thank You for cleaning up my life. I love You and I praise You. Help me to identify with any area where I am holding on to something I need to let go of. I ask these things in Jesus’ precious name, amen…
