Choosing To Imitate Christ
7/26/2017

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. Eph. 5:1 (NKJV)

As we come to know Jesus Christ and we begin to learn about His word, the truth and purity of it can expose many sinful practices within our lives, and we can begin to repent and turn from these ways.  This can be an amazing time in our Christian walk, but it can also present opportunities for the enemy to divide and steal.  Let me explain.

For example, let’s say that we have a heart to share the good news of Jesus Christ along with the things we are learning about God, but we experience rejection from those who we are attempting to share with — this rejection can cause bitterness within our heart, or it can cause us to be judgmental or hypercritical of those who don’t want to know the Lord and are still living for this world.

Another problem can occur when we have a stronger desire for others to be transformed by God’s word, but we are not willing to patiently allow God to do the transforming in His perfect timing.  Unfortunately, this frustration can manifest into casting judgment or saying hurtful things — things often hindering or damaging to the walk of the other person.

Often times we can fail to realize our frustration and impatience is just as much a sin as any other sin.  We need to remember we have been told to imitate God (Eph. 5:1).  Well one of God’s greatest character qualities is His amazing patience for us (2 Pet. 3:9).  God is merciful and His grace is amazing, so shouldn’t we also bestow these same things upon others so they might see Jesus in us.

If we truly care for others then we are going to live as an example so they can see God’s truth manifested in our actions.  After all, this is what causes others to want to know Jesus.  As others see our true love in action, they will know how much we care—this in turn will open a door to share His truth.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes Romans 1:16 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to be a living testimony today of Jesus’ love.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 1 Cor. 11:1 what great advice did the Apostle Paul give?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Can we say to others, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ?"

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Be committed to look to the Scriptures contained within the Bible to see how Christ acted so you can get to know and imitate Him.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for allowing Jesus to come to the Earth to show us how we should live and love others in our actions.  Help me to be more like Jesus today and less like myself.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
