The Real Miracle Comeback

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ… Titus 2:11-13 (NKJV)

Some would say that it was the shot heard round the world. No, I’m not referring to the opening stanza of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Concord Hymn,” which speaks of the first shot of the American Revolutionary War. I’m speaking of the death of the famed Hostess brand snack food company on November 16th 2012.  There was to be no more preservative packed calorie bombs — AKA, Hostess Twinkies & Cupcakes.

But that was before the miracle comeback on July 15th, 2013 that ushered the return of the world-renowned junk food king.  Millions of people had earnestly hoped for, and eagerly awaited, the return of the Hostess brand snacks, and against all odds, it happened.  It was definitely one very welcomed sweet comeback, as people were rewarded with the ability to buy and consume their beloved snack, while the new owners of Hostess brand have been rewarded with profits in the billions in these last few years.

As great as this comeback has been, there will be one that will be much greater, and definitely much sweeter coming very soon — It is the blessed hope of the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ coming back to receive us — His bride (the Church) unto Himself.  Now this will be the biggest comeback of all time.  Think about this for a moment, what would you do today if you knew Jesus was coming back this evening?  Would you be happy and excited, or do you think you would be nervous and afraid?  Are you ready for Him to come back?

Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Matthew 24:44 (NKJV)

Q: How can we be ready for Jesus’ return?

We can be ready by having a desire to have a relationship with Him.  We can start right now by stopping and taking some time to talk with Him in prayer — thanking Him for the work He is doing in our life, and asking Him to show us every area where we need to allow Him to change us to be more like Him.  It is all about having an abiding relationship with Him. If we choose to abide in Him, He will abide in us (John 15:1-11).  We will be His disciples, and we can’t get any more ready than this.

We are told in Ephesians 6:11, to put on the “whole armor of God.” And verse 17 tells us to put on our helmet of salvation, which is our blessed hope of Jesus’ saving grace upon our lives.  This is what we are to focus on each and every day — it’s the blessed hope of His returning and drawing us unto him in the heavens.  If we truly have a “Blessed Hope” in Jesus returning to take us home with Him, then we ought to be ready this very day.  We ought to have our affairs in order, be at peace with our neighbors, have Christ in our heart, and be ready to leave this place.

I want to encourage you today — get ready for Jesus’ return.  Live today as if you believe He is coming back today.  What a glorious day it will be when He comes back and finds us about His Father's business — sharing the message of salvation with those who would otherwise perish.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Titus 2:11-13 what should be our blessed hope?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you prepared for Jesus to come back today?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Prepare for the return of Christ.  Share your blessed hope with others today.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for the blessed hope You have given me.  I look forward to Your Son returning to take us away from this sin-filled place.  I look forward to living in a place where there are no more tears and no more hurt — no more temptation, and no more anger.  Help me to be used in spreading the gospel message so others may be saved.  Even so Lord, come quick.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
