The Fuel
4/20/2017

Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 1 Peter 2:1-3 (NKJV)

It is hard to imagine a world without automobiles. Gas powered engines made their way into carriages in the late 1800’s, and the evolution of the automobile has continued ever since. Most of us in America have become so accustomed to using our cars in our daily lifestyles, and as a result of this dependency the price and availability of fuel can have a great affect on what we do. The simple truth is, without the fuel the engine won’t provide power, and the car isn’t much good for anything.

I find similarities in our Christian walk. Let me explain. Our bodies are similar to the cars we drive in that they need fuel to operate properly, both physically and spiritually. Without good fuel, they are incapable of doing what they are designed to do. But when they are fueled properly, they can do amazing things.

Think of the human heart as the engine, and the mind as both a computer hard drive, and fuel filter. God’s Word is the best possible fuel, and our heart and mind are to be fueled daily if we are to have any real power in our Christian walk. God’s Word is also essential for programming our hard drive (mind) with His absolute truth to guide and equip us in our Christian walk. It also acts as a spiritual virus protector, keeping the lies of Satan from making their way to our heart.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

God’s Word is very strong, and it is the primary tool He has chosen to use to complete the transforming process in our lives (Rom. 12:1-2). It is our responsibility to be fueled continuously with God’s Word (John 15:5). As we choose to abide in Him and His Word, He empowers us to walk in His Spirit.

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Gal. 5:16 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you today—Choose to be fueled with the pure milk of God’s Word. Empower your life to be more like Jesus’ - choosing to be used in a greater capacity for Kingdom purposes.
