Having The Signature of Christ
3/27/2017

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 2 Peter 1:2-7 (NKJV)

I recall receiving a missions update letter once, it was from a friend of mine named Nick. Nick’s letter was filled with many great things the Lord was doing in the lives of those who lived there, as well as those who went to serve. At the end of his letter he shared a small story about a young man named Victor. In it was a great example of the simplicity of loving others in the way Christ would. It goes like this—

One of the longtime residents here, Victor, came to see me. He gave me a little carved wooden cup that he had labored over. "It is hand made," he shared. I asked him why he did this. He said, "It is for you, because your group keeps coming to help us." So I took the little cup and told him it is truly wonderful. But I said it was missing something. I said, "You forgot to sign your name. All artists sign their name to their work." A smile came on to Victor's face that was as wonderful as could be. This was a good reminder for all of us that these simple interactions in the lives of young people are very precious. These are little acts of love that can reflect Jesus Christ.”

When I read this letter I thought about what Nick had said to this young man—about him signing his name to identify his work. As I thought about it I couldn’t help but think of how Jesus does this through each of us as His disciples. Each and every time we share an act of love, mercy and grace with others, they will see the signature of the ultimate craftsman who is ultimately responsible for what was just done, and it will be none other than Jesus.

"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 (NKJV)

This should give each of us a sense of accountability along with a sense of excitement as we ponder this truth. Every true work of God will bring forth fruit.

If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 1 Corinthians 3:14 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTION: According to 2 Peter 1:2-7 what can we learn about our possessing God’s divine nature once we become His children?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you sharing God’s love with others, and are your actions showing His nature in your life?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Choose to love others in the same way Jesus loves you. Choose to be kind, compassionate, caring, and willing to serve other people, as if you are doing it for the Lord. Allow God to supply all your needs as you do this through Christ Jesus.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your love, mercy and grace upon my life. Thank You for showing me how to love others in the way Jesus loves us. Help me today to be filled with Your agape love, and lead me in sharing this love with those You bring into my life. In Jesus’ precious name, amen…
