Collecting or Distributing Gods Blessings

And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:18-21 (NKJV)

I’m not sure why, but all too often we tend to accumulate stuff simply for the sake of obtaining and possessing it.  It can be from Craigslist, a garage sale, the Internet, or just about any department store for that matter.  The basic theme is the same — we obtain things and then at some point we tuck them away with all intentions of using them in the future.  But all too often, they simply become a part of our vast collection of stuff not to be used, just collecting dust.

This can actually happen with our mental stuff as well, specifically the things we have learned, including the biblical knowledge we have accumulated over the years.  Knowledge we thought to be valuable and worth having, knowledge we fully intended to use at some point, but like the stuff in our cupboards and closets, its collecting dust. And just like the physical stuff we accumulated over the years, we need to get rid of it.

So what about the good stuff – the knowledge of God, His Word and wisdom — why would we want to get rid of it?  Shouldn’t we be keeping this?

Well, yes and no.  Let me explain.  We need to keep the knowledge God has imparted to us so we can make good decisions and judgment, but we must be willing to be a distributor of it as well.  This is exactly what the Apostle Paul was saying to the elders of Ephesus, I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you…”

Pay it forward is what Paul was saying, a principle Jesus proclaimed as well, as He also shared those things He heard from the Father.

"For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.  And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.” John 12:49-50 (NKJV)

We have been given many valuable tools and blessings with the knowledge of God’s Word, specifically. We need to pay it forward and become distributors of those great things God has given freely to us, such as His Word, His mercy, His love, and the good news about Jesus Christ.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn about Paul’s lifestyle from Acts 20:18-21?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Is it your desire to live in this same way?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Make it your goal to pass on to others the blessings God has given to you abundantly.

PRAYER: Father, thank You for giving me so much.  Thank You for Your love, grace, and mercy upon my life.  Thank You for all provision and health.  Thank You for my family and friends.  Thank You for Your Word.  Help me to share these many blessings with others.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…
