Receiving The Power of God
12/30/2016

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13 (NKJV)

What an amazing covenant our God has made with us! Our part is to—

· Place our faith in Jesus—we believe

· Accept Him as our Lord and Savior

· Confess our sin, which is to agree with God that what we did was wrong

· Repent of our sin, which is to change our mind about living this way and turn and choose to live in God’s will

And as a result of entering into this covenant we get a huge blessing in the form of the Holy Spirit who will dwell/live within our body. We literally get plugged into the power of God. This divine power will equip us to do whatever God leads us to do, including giving us the boldness to tell others about Jesus.

“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me." John 15:26 (NKJV)

The relation of the Holy Spirit to the Christian believer is much like the relationship of a shepherd to his sheep. We are to be “led” by Him as our guide and protector, as He gently leads us in the correct decisions, and directs us onto the proper paths we should take. The Holy Spirit also bears witness to our salvation in Christ, and to our membership in God’s family.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV)

Imagine if you were an heir to the richest family in the world, and you are being given an inheritance because of your relationship. You didn’t earn it; you were just blessed because of your affiliation as a family member. So it is with our Heavenly father, as we have been made heirs in His heavenly estate. We see this being spoken of in the Book of Galatians.

Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. Galatians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to remember, within your mortal body resides a loving God, who is all-powerful, all loving, and all knowing. Let Him work through you. Let Him guide you into all understanding, as He leads you through every situation in life. It is when we come to the end of ourselves that we will discover the power and glory of God, as we become humble, allowing Him to work through us to effect His perfect will.

May this be an encouragement to you today to yield the lead of your life over to our Lord.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Ephesians 1:13, how were we marked when we believed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you acknowledged that God lives within your body? Have you plugged into His Power available to you as a believer?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Seek God in every aspect of your life. Choose to read the Word of God daily, and pray often throughout the day. Ask God to fill you afresh daily with His power and His Spirit.

MAKE THIS YOUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, I seek You today for wisdom and discernment. Guide me in all your ways and thinking as I go forth. Lead me in understanding as I read Your Word, and allow me to retain it for future use. May Your power be evident in the ministry that You have allowed me to participate in. In Jesus’ name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
