Keep Praying To God

Pray without ceasing…. 1 Th. 5:17 (NKJV)

One of the best pieces of wisdom I have ever received came from a Christian brother. It was at the very beginning of a new building project at church. He said, “As the prayer goes, so goes the building.” He went on to elaborate on his experiences from previous church building projects, saying, “As the churches kept their project constantly before the Lord in prayer, the project went great. But when they stopped praying about the project, then the project hit all sorts of problems and hindrances.”

I thought about it, and it seemed so simple, and yet so profound. This is the way it is in our Christian walk as well, and this is the way it will always be. God is faithful to those who diligently seek Him—to those who come to Him in prayer—to those who would ask for His guidance and His perfect will in each situation of their life.

Okay, so maybe we aren’t planning to build any sort of structure in the near future. But how about building our walk with God? How about building our marriage? How about building our relationships with family, co-workers and friends? How about building our business, or our career, or anything worthy of building for that matter?

If we diligently seek God in every aspect of our life by continually coming to Him in prayer to find out what His will is for whatever we are facing, then He will be faithful to show us, guide us, and to provide whatever is needed to complete His will.

So, using marriage as an example. If we know God wants our marriage to be blessed and to prosper, then let’s seek His will for our marriage in every situation. Let’s abide in His Word, and then apply it to our lives. Let’s seek Him in prayer for every aspect of our marital needs, and then believe that He will provide.

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11:24 (NKJV)

As we earnestly seek and ask God to discern His will for our situation, He will lay it on our heart to pray for what we truly need. When we do this we can be fully confident He will answer our prayer, because it will be His will. But when we come to God asking for what we want, instead of what He wants, we will find we probably won’t have these prayers answered.

I want to encourage you to keep praying to God for every detail of your life. Pray continually, and you will have a peace, knowing God is in control. Things will definitely go smoother because you will not be anxious, or filled with uncertainty. Instead, you will be confident that God is at work, and that He has every detail worked out.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn with regard to faith when praying to God according to the scriptures above?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you praying about God’s will for everything in your life, or are you just waiting for a crisis to seek God’s help?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Pray continually about everything. Ask God for His will in each situation, and choose to have a peace—knowing He is working in every situation, even if you don’t see the fruit of your prayers immediately.

MAKE THIS YOUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, thank You for allowing me to come directly to You in prayer. Help me to remember Your plans are perfect for my life, and that I don’t need to be anxious for anything; but in prayer and supplication, I should make my requests known to You. In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
