With Respect To His Truth

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32 (NKJV)

Steven Robiner once said, “What is absolutely true is always correct, everywhere, all the time, and under every condition.  An entity’s ability to discern these things is irrelevant to that state of truth.”  What Mr. Robiner was speaking of was, Absolute Truth—a term not well received by most people.  Unfortunately for them, they are wrong, because our Creator has given us His absolute truth to guide and govern our lives.

One of the greatest attacks on absolute truth, and an affirmation of the unwillingness to accept it, is the attack on God’s word.  We are told within our bibles, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17).  This means every Scripture within God’s word is God-breathed, and it is His absolute truth.  And yet, many people who claim to be Christian will actually say they believe something to be true, when The Bible clearly refutes this very thing.

For example; back in 2005, Newsweek published an article citing statistics showing, 85% of American “Christians” actually believe there are other ways to heaven than those stated in the bible.  91% of Roman Catholics believed this to be true as well.   The problem is there is an obvious disconnect here, because each of these people has access to God’s word, and we are clearly told in our Bibles, there is only 1-way.  And The Way is Jesus Christ.  Jesus stated this truth Himself when He boldly said,  “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).  And we are told this in Acts 4:12, Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Satan has attacked absolute truth, and the effects of his attacks can be seen throughout the world, as people exchange what they know to be wrong by their own conscience, with their own personal relevistic views—defending their way of living is right according to their truth, rather than the absolute truth of The Bible.

Q:         So what is our responsibility as followers of God with respect to His Truth?

·      We have been created to worship God, so as followers of Jesus Christ we must be committed to worshipping God in truth (John 4:23-24)

·      We must be committed to knowing and loving God’s truth (Prov. 23:23; cf. 2 Thess. 2:10)

·      We must be committed to obeying God’s truth (1 Pet. 1:22l cf, Rom. 2:8; Gal. 5:7)

·      We must be committed to speaking God’s truth in love (Eph. 4:15)

·      We must be committed to walking in God’s truth (Ps. 26:3; 86:11; 2 John 4; 3 John 3-4)

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these truths today.

STUDY QUESTION: According to John 8:31-32, what did Jesus claim if we would abide in His word (truth)?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you consider God’s word to be absolute truth?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Choose to guard the truth the Lord has given to us, and to place your faith in it.

MAKE THIS YOUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, thank You for Your word, and Your truth.  Help me to know it as I prayerfully read my bible daily.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
