Trusting Gods Perfect Plan and Timing
9/30/2015

In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will… Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV)

It has been said, “Timing is everything” and there is great truth in this.  I remember reading a story of flight attendant Joyce Olver, who was supposed to be on the American Airlines flight that was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon on 9/11/2001.  Ironically, the day before, Joyce had thought life had dealt a cruel blow because she had just learned she had a broken bone in her foot, which meant she wouldn’t be able to go to work at her recently acquired new job.  She said, "I was frustrated. I worked so hard to get through flight school. On the way home, I started to talk to God. I said 'God, it's not fair. Why did you take my career away?"

As it turned out, God had a better plan for her life, and being on this flight was not a part of it — it wasn’t her time.  Joyce recalled how her first reaction to hearing the news was that someone else was on the plane instead of her, and as it turns out she knew the young woman who took her place as flight attendant this day.   God in His sovereignty had a plan for this young woman too.  Joyce learned later the young stewardess had a conversation with a minister on Sept. 10th during a flight.  They spoke about God, and by the end of the conversation she had accepted Christ as her personal Savior — she would now live eternally with God.

There are many other personal testimonies of people who continued to live because they were late or absent from work on September 11, 2001.  Truth is, this continues to happen every day throughout the world, as people’s lives are protected and spared by God, while others come to an end.  The good news is we don’t have to worry or be anxious, because all things are under God’s rule and control, and nothing happens without His direction and permission.  This is the Sovereignty of God, and it should increase our faith and trust in Him to work all things for good in our lives.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 (NKJV)

We can take much from this story and these biblical truths.   God has a perfect time for everything under the sun, and He will do everything He needs to do to affect the best eternal benefits for each of us.  Our job is to trust Him — even when it involves our not understanding, or having to endure pain, suffering, and physical death.  In the end, we will be blessed beyond measure, and we can know our Father has done what was best — for us, and for those in our lives.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.  Remember, God is working all things for good for those who love Him.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Romans 8:28, what can we learn about our bad choices in life, or the bad things that can happen to us?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to allow God to use your past experiences for good?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Continue to place your trust in God to guide, protect, lead, and to transform your life in whatever way He knows is best.

MAKE THIS YOUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, thank You for loving me enough to make changes in my life — even when it is painful.  I invite You to continue to guide every aspect of my life today.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
