It Will Stand Forever
9/1/2015

The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8 (NKJV)

I love rugged tools.  It can be anything from a 28-oz. claw hammer, or a beefy shovel, to a heavy-duty wheelbarrow, or a great pair of leather gloves—it doesn’t matter as long as it is durable, tough, and can continue to last to do many jobs.  I have pretty much had a pickup truck most of my life because of the usefulness and practicality they bring — between working on the house, taking my motorcycle out to ride, and using it for all sorts of work stuff, it just wouldn’t make sense to have something without a truck bed to haul stuff around.

My current truck is a Chevy 2500HD and it is more truck than I truly need most of the time, but it is nice to know I have enough truck to get the job done.  I’ve had Ford trucks in the past as well, and I’ve found that they are both pretty well-built, tough vehicles.  Both manufactures work very hard at promoting their pick up trucks durability with Chevrolet using the tag line, "Most Dependable, Longest-Lasting Trucks on the Road," and Ford saying, We have more trucks on the road with 250,000 miles or more than any other manufacturer.

I have to admit it’s nice to see some automobile manufacturers working hard at making some products to last longer than it takes to pay them off.  Over my years on this earth I have seen an incredible change in how things are made.  It seems for decades durability has been sliding down the list of priorities.

Even so, when it comes to durability there is nothing in the running to rival God’s Word. God has built His Word to last longer than any other thing that we will touch or see in our lives.   Jesus boldly told His disciples, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” (Matt. 24:35).   To fully understand this truth should cause us to also properly understand the magnitude of its worth — just as David did.

…For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. Psalms 138:2 (NKJV)

I have found that Satan will do whatever he can to keep us distracted or too busy to open up our Bibles.  Satan knows if he can keep us from making it a priority to read, study, and pray about God’s Word then he can keep us from knowing what God wants us to know; he can keep us from understanding what God wants us to believe, and he can keep us from acting upon God’s revelation and guidance for our lives.

I believe that every one of us who has a desire to truly follow Jesus should have a great desire to live by His Word — this will always separate us from the world, and it will set us apart for His service.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.  Find out what God wants to talk with you about.  Open your Bible and prayerfully read the words God has ordained to stand forever.
