Supplying Our Needs Accordingly
5/5/2015

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (NKJV)

It never ceases to amaze me how our Lord abundantly supplies our needs.  What we may consider large is minuscule to Him, and there is nothing beyond His abilities.  I literally get excited when I see the basic essentials falling into place like manna from heaven.  Such was the case a few years ago.

I had went out to our church property where we were getting ready to break ground to build our new church building.  I was to meet my friend Greg, so we could decide on a new place to move our old wooden cross.  This cross had been placed at the furthest corner of the property and it was our traditional meeting place for Men’s Prayer on Thursday mornings — not to mention a place for the many people who love to randomly come out and sit on one of the benches and spend time praying.

As Greg and I scouted the perfect spot and began to run the tractor over it in preparation, we began to talk about when we would schedule to move it.  I felt compelled to begin moving it right then and there and Greg quickly agreed.  Neither of us was really prepared, nor did we have all the tools needed.  Greg had one square-edged shovel and a smaller round point one as well.  After partially digging a new hole for the cross I managed to break the shovel handle while attempting to remove a rock.  It was clear we would have to go and get some more tools.

At this point a vehicle pulled up and a friend of ours from church greeted Greg and me.  After a couple of minutes chatting he asked if we could pray for him about some serious stuff transpiring at his work.  As it turned out this was to be a divine appointment and we were sovereignly placed exactly where God wanted us to be and it really ended up being a blessing to all of us.  As our friend was getting ready to leave he turned and said, “Hey do you guys need some shovels, I have some.”  We smiled and praised God’s unique way of providing for us.

It didn’t end there either — before long another friend of ours offered to let us use his posthole-digging machine, and we were able to really make up some time.  About an hour later another friend stopped by to see if we would like some assistance.  Everything clicked into place and we were able to move all the benches and the cross to its new location.

This may seem insignificant to some, but it was nothing less than God reminding Greg and I that He is aware of our needs, and He wants us to know He will provide abundantly.  We were willing to begin to work with what we had, and then He provided everything else we could possibly need — all while allowing us to be available to pray for a friend, and to be blessed by fellowshipping with a few more.  Thank You Lord Jesus!

...giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ Ephesians 5:20 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.  Remember, God desires to use you in many ways and will meet your needs abundantly — you just need to be willing to do the best with what you have.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn from the Scriptures contained within this devotion?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to simply do the best you can with what you have and trust in God to provide for your needs?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Choose to be faithful to do the best you can with what you have and trust in God’s provision for what you need.

LET’S MAKE THIS OUR PRAYER TODAY:  Father, thank You for all provision.  I acknowledge Your love for me and I submit to Your will for my life today.  Show me where I can be used for Kingdom purposes today and meet every need and provision to empower me to be successful.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
