To Reject God
3/12/2015

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9 (NKJV)

In the Book of 1 Samuel we can see one of the greatest tragedies as the nation of Israel becomes conformed to this world and makes its transition from being a theocracy, a government and people led by God — to being a monarchy, a government and people led by man.  In essence Israel had rejected God’s plan for their lives and insisted on having their own king to lead them as other nations.

Samuel, Israel’s most effective judge, was displeased by the people’s request, but God tells him, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Sam. 8:7).  Israel had insisted on doing things their own way, so God gave them a king to lead them — one after their own heart.  Saul was anointed as king and he successfully led Israel into many battles, but as he progressed in his power he consistently began to disobey God and do things his own way.

Q:         What can we learn from this story and apply to our lives as Christian men and women?

Israel knew of, and believed in God, and yet they refused to give the control of their lives to Him.  They wanted to go in their own direction rather than follow God’s ways.  As Christian’s we can find ourselves doing the same thing.  We can say we believe in God and yet choose not to know, follow, or abide in His word—this is rejecting God (cf. Matt. 7:21-23; Luke 6:46).

Another way to reject God is when we ask Him to control our lives but we refuse to give up our personal goals and plans to Him.  We can often find ourselves asking Him to bless our goals and plans rather than asking His will.

Q:         How can we correct this independent tendency within our lives?

·      We must simply turn over the reigns (control) and destination of our lives to the One who is really in control.

·      We must choose to do what we already know is right and required of us by God.

·      We must look to His Word each day for further instruction and direction to guide our path and choices.

God has a perfect plan for every one of our lives.  To reject God’s plans is to reject God.  It is up to us whether we accept or reject what He has for our life.

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.  Let’s choose to seek the Lord and to lay our lives at His feet.  Let’s choose to give Him full control and to lay down every desire before Him.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Isaiah 55:9 what can we learn about God’s ways versus ours?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to give God total control of your life and allow Him to lead you?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Let’s choose to surrender our will and life fully unto the Lord today.  Let’s let Jesus be the Lord of our life.

LET’S MAKE THIS OUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, thank You for Your guidance and leading of my life.  I choose to lay my life before You this day and allow You to be Lord.  Show me today what Your will is for me.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
