The Health Benefits of Fruit

Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. Matthew 7:17 (NKJV)

We’ve all been taught how we should be eating several portions of fresh fruits and vegetables each and every day for good health.  According to science and doctors, if we abstain from eating natural fruit daily, we will probably suffer the effects in the way of various diseases, such as cancer, heart problems or diabetes.  Fruits contain many vitamins, antioxidants, some minerals, and many enzymes (if eaten fresh), essential for maintaining good health. Other benefits of eating fruits and veggies include:

·      Reduced risk of a stroke and other cardiovascular diseases

·      Reduced risk of developing type-2 diabetes

·      Reduced risk of developing certain cancers, including mouth, stomach, and colon or bowel cancers

·      Reduced risk of developing coronary heart disease

·      Reduced risk of developing kidney stones and osteoporosis

God is faithful to provide a balance of fruit for us, and it seems the more we learn the scientific facts, the more it proves God’s balanced plan is the way for us to go.  With our lifestyles getting busier and busier with each passing year, we simply don’t consistently stop and prepare good food for fueling our bodies, and we tend to substitute good for bad by eating fast-food much too often.

Our fleshly body and our spiritual body work in unison, as each one has a profound impact on the other.   So, in the same way fruit provides for good physical health, fruit can also provides for spiritual health, but it isn’t the same kind of fruit.   This fruit comes from God, and it is a by-product of walking closely with God.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Galatians 5:22 (NKJV)

The benefits of the Fruit of the Spirit include:

·      Reduced risk of hatred and bitterness

·      Reduced risk of pessimism and a gloomy attitude

·      Reduced risk of confusion, unrest, or turmoil

·      Reduced risk of short temper

·      Reduced risk of selfishness

·      Reduced risk of bad attitude and heart

·      Reduced risk of being unfaithful

When we are digesting God’s Word in our daily regiment, we are growing healthy spiritually.  We will have fruit evident within our lives and our Lord will use us mightily. 

I want to encourage you to think and pray upon these things today.  Let’s make it our goal to eat more fresh fruits and to partake of God’s Word so we will be filled with the fruit of His Spirit. 

STUDY QUESTION: According to Galatians 5:22, what kind of fruit should we have in our life when we are walking with God?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you getting enough of God’s Word in your life on a daily basis?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Let’s carve out some time to eat better, and study and read more. 

LET’S MAKE THIS OUR PRAYER TODAY: Father, thank You for Your wisdom in seeing the balance needed in what we take in daily, both physically and spiritually.  Help us to remember to take the time to partake of the proper things.  Give us the power today to make this a priority in our lives.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…
