Merry Christmas!

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)

Merry Christmas!  What a beautiful day it is.  For us as Christians it is a day we choose to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  We really don’t know what day Jesus was born, but In 336 A.D., the Western Church based in Rome, chose December 25 to celebrate as Christmas, meaning "Christ's Mass." The Eastern Church chose January 6. The day was named “Epiphany,” meaning appearance. Eventually the period from December 25 to January 6 became known as the Twelve Days of Christmas.

Isaiah spoke of Jesus’ birth roughly 700-years before it transpired, when he said, For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).  This prophesy came true when an Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him his wife Mary would in fact be having a child.

We also see in Isaiah, the child Mary was to conceive would be called Immanuel, which means, God with us.  This was to be His descriptive title of His earthly ministry.  And we see in Matthew 1:21, and in Luke 1:31 the Angel Gabriel visited Mary and told her to give the child the name Jesus.

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 (NKJV)

Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means either “The LORD is salvation,” or “The LORD saves.”

This baby Jesus born in a manger was willing to lay down his life for all of us.  He is the Christ who died to save us from our sin.  We cannot save ourselves.  He is willing to save all those who turn from their sin and come to Him.  Salvation is from God alone — No amount of good works can earn it (Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 10:9-10; Acts 4:12).  What an amazing gift we have been given.

Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTION: According to Acts 4:12 what can we learn about having a relationship with Jesus?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to share this gift with someone this Christmas season?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Give the gift of eternal life by sharing the gospel message with someone this holiday season.  It is after all the reason for the season.

LET’S MAKE THIS OUR PRAYER TODAY: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the gift of eternal life.  Thank You for Your amazing love and mercy upon me.  Help me to share it boldly, but mostly in love.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Merry Christmas and May God richly bless you this day.

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
