For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb. 4:12 (NKJV)

I recently received an email from someone who asked if I could suggest some spiritual resources to help them in their walk with Jesus, and to help them to have knowledge so they could share and witness to others.  As I thought about all the great writings available, I came to this conclusion.

There are many great resources available to help us in our walk with God, but I always refer back to God’s Word, as there can be no better.  God has told us, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

So we can know God’s Word is absolutely the best resource we can possibly use.  We are told to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, so we may know what the good and acceptable will of God is for our lives (Romans 12:2).  We have been told, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and to lean not upon your own understanding; in all our ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Jesus promised us, “I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you... But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:16-17, 26).

So we can see some great promises from God, to lead us, to guide us, and to remind us of His will for how to live our lives. This is perfect knowledge, from the Perfect One, and it has been given to us for free.  We have been given a promise from God to help us to remember and understand what He has taught us in His Word.  And we have been given a promise from Him to provide the wisdom to implement this knowledge into our lives (Jas. 1:5-6).

When you think about it, as we go through our lives as Christian men and women, we have been blessed with the great privilege to be given a full scholarship to the School of God.  We have been given the greatest reading and study materials so we can know the heart of the Lord, and to walk closer with Him.  And as we truly get to know and love Him, we won’t be able to contain ourselves when it comes to sharing Him with others.

My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Psa. 34:2 (NKJV)

STUDY QUESTION: According to Hebrews 4:12, how powerful is God’s Word?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you seeking God’s wisdom for understanding and implementing His Word?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Let’s choose to seek God’s Word first and foremost when looking for instruction and wisdom for living our lives.

LET’S PRAY: Father, we thank You for Your written word.  Help us to understand it, and to apply it to our lives.  Help us to encourage and counsel others with it as well.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
