The Gift of Jesus
12/24/2013

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)

Christmas Day—a day chosen to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  This day has long been known for the exchanging of gifts, as it celebrates the greatest gift ever given to mankind—Jesus.  In Isaiah 9:6 we see the prophesy of Jesus’ birth, saying, “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

“For unto us…” These three words speak of the decision by God to give us His Son – He would leave Heaven and come to earth with the goal of providing a way for us to be reunited and to have a relationship with Him.  God’s Perfect gift exchange includes Him freely giving His only begotten Son to whomever would choose to receive Him.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: John 1:12 (NKJV)

I think what amazes me the most about God’s gift of forgiveness and salvation to us, is He allows us to be an integral part of giving it to others.  That’s right, He could have had His angels do it, or with a thunderous voice, He could have chosen to shout it from heaven, but He chose us to share the gift of Jesus through the Gospel message.  Each of us has been given many unique relationships with a variety of people within our lives.  And each of these relationships provides a bridge for us to bring over this wonderful message—how we choose to treat others is the very foundation of these bridges.  This is because it provides validity of what Christ has done in our heart as a true Christian believer.

We can choose to profess Jesus as our Savior, but our actions will inevitably qualify or even disqualify us from being able to speak into the lives of others and sharing with them God’s greatest gift. I want to encourage you today, to make a list of the people God has put into your life—people you believe you have shown unmerited favor to.  I want to encourage you to share with them God’s gift this Christmas – share with them what God has done in your life, and what He is continuing to do.  Share with them about what Jesus has done on the cross, and why we celebrate this great holiday.

STUDY QUESTION: According to John 1:12, how many people will have the ability to be saved?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you received Christ into your heart as Lord and Savior?  Are you willing to pass on this gift to others?

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Let’s ask the Lord to help us share with the free gift of Jesus Christ with others.

LET’S PRAY: Father, thank You for the gift of eternal life.  Thank You for allowing Your Son to come and die for us.  Thank You for Your amazing grace, love and salvation.  Help us to compose a list of people to share this gift with.  Help us to be bold in love, and to go forth and share with each of them.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

I pray a blessing upon you and yours this Christmas, and I hope you are able to reflect upon every blessing our Lord and Savior has bestowed upon you this year.  God bless you…

Be blessed…Pastor Scott
