The One Who Is Leading
4/16/2013

A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. Prov. 16:9 (NKJV)

Oswald Chambers aptly stated, “Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.”  I was reminded of this great quote when my friend Harold sent me an E-Card this past week with these words boldly emblazened at the top.

Harold attached a note to the E-Card, writing, “DO YOU TRUST ME? ...Proverbs 3:5-6.” I smiled when I saw this, because I know that Harold keeps a little red business sized card that has this question on one side, with Proverbs 3, verses 5 & 6 on the other side.  It is a card I handed out a few years ago to all of the men at our Men’s study at church.  I keep one of these cards as well upon my visor in my jeep and I often look up just to read it.

Harold let me know his wife and he were sitting at the airport, and their flight to Denver was delayed due to snow conditions in Colorado.  They were to leave at 6:30 am, but it would now be 4:00pm, and their flight would now be redirected through Las Vegas.  He finished by saying, “One of God's little change in plans....We know He is in control....OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS!”

It can be easy to trust God when things are going great in our life, but when our plans begin to change, and things become challenging, that’s where the rubber meets the road, so to speak.

Placing our faith in God means we may not know where we are being led at all times, but we still trust Him—knowing and believing He is in control and is the One doing the leading.  I believe it is our trusting God with every part of our life, even when we don’t get what we hoped for—trusting His will to be better than what our will was, and trusting that His blessings will far exceed our wildest expectations.

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer,

The Holy One of Israel:

“I am the LORD your God,

Who teaches you to profit,

Who leads you by the way you should go. Is. 48:17 (NKJV)

That’s what happens when we know and love the One who is truly leading.  I want to encourage you to meditate upon these things today.

STUDY QUESTION: According to the Scriptures contained within this devotional, what can we learn about God’s leading us?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you allowing God to lead you in everything you do?

APPLICATION: Let’s choose to seek the Lord for His leading, rather than willingly choose to follow the lost sheep down the wrong path.

LET’S PRAY: Father, thank You for watching out for us, and for guiding us on the proper paths (Ps. 23:2-3).  Father, we are sorry for those times where we have doubted Your leading, or worse yet, where we have chosen not to follow.  Help us to clearly see Your path for our lives.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
