Is He Big or Small?
2/11/2013

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Ephesians 6:10 (NKJV)

Have you ever noticed how problems seem bigger in the middle of the night, or when you find yourself without the resources or ability to deal with them?  Well, rest assured, your not alone, as we all will experience these times.   This isn’t a coincidence; in fact it is an attack from Satan.  Satan and his emissaries knows when we are at our weakest, and are most vulnerable, so they carefully orchestrates their attacks during these times in an attempt to get us to become overwhelmed.

This is what it comes down to; if our problems seem overwhelming, and we are experiencing anxiety, worry, or fear, then we are probably more focused on our problem than we are upon God.  When we primarily focus on our issue, or upon ourselves, we will find our issue will appear to become even bigger and as a result, we will actually be making God smaller.  Instead of doing this we should make it our goal to keep our mind focused upon our Lord, and the many promises contained within His word; then we will be reminded of just how big He is, and our problems will begin to look significantly smaller.

Let’s put this into perspective.  Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is estimated to be 100,000 light years from one end to the other, and our sun is just one of billions of stars in it. Scientists believe there are at least several billion galaxies in the universe.  God spoke each of these stars, and galaxies into existence, and yet we are told in Psalm 147:4 that God actually numbers every one of these stars and calls them by name.  So how big is our God now?

Q:         What does this mean to us, and how should this impact our lives as Christian men and women?

I think it is important for us to remember that every difficult challenge and situation we face, will also be a great opportunity for God to manifest His authority, power, and His abundant provision within our lives.   And as we trust Him, and continue to walk in faith, then we are actually providing a platform for others to see true faith in action.

The next time you are facing something challenging, and you are feeling overwhelmed, think about just how big and capable our God is.  As we do, I think we will find just how small our problem really is in relationship to Him.

I want to encourage you to meditate upon these truths today.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Ephesians 6:10, where are we to place our faith, and to find our strength, especially when we find ourselves being overwhelmed?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Have you experienced times where your problems seemed to become increasingly bigger then more you focused on them?

APPLICATION: Let’s choose to trust in our Lord, and keep our eyes and mind focused on Him.  Our problems will become smaller, and we will be given a perfect peace as we do (Isa. 26:3).

LET’S PRAY: Father, Thank You for reminding us of just how big you are, and how small our problems are in Your hands.  We are sorry for those times we have diminished You, and have given a greater place to our problems.  Remind of us of this when we are tempted to doubt, worry, or fear.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…
