To You Alone Lord

“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:11 (NKJV)

If there is one thing we can all agree upon it is this; we were all created to worship.  Worship is a title of respect—it is to have a love and devotion to something or someone.  Man has always found something to worship.  Our historic findings show how man has worshiped many things in the various cultures and places within the world.   The truth is we were actually created to worship God.

Unfortunately we can often give other things, people, or activities the worship rightfully belonging to God alone.  This type of worship is unhealthy and it is not from God—it is sin.  Satan knows we were created to worship so he will do whatever possible to tempt us to worship our jobs, our money, various activities, and even our pets.  When we love these or any other thing in such excess we are making idols, and we will find ourselves giving our best to them, rather than to our Lord, and the things He has called us to do.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:21, 24 (NKJV)

I want to be clear here, I am not against having a love for an activity, a person, or a pet, but we need to guard ourselves against worshiping any person, place, thing, or activity, including religious activities and objects.  We need to guard ourselves from giving these things the place God deserves within our heart.  In short we are to worship the creator, not the creation.  Even so, every activity we do can be done as an act of worship as unto the Lord.

I want to encourage you to meditate upon these things today.  Let’s choose to give our worship to the only One truly worthy of our worship.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Matthew 6:21, 24 what can we learn about the things we treasure?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Can you see the times in your life where you have allowed yourself to worship something or someone?

APPLICATION: Let’s make sure we never give anything, or anyone the place God deserves within our heart.

LET’S PRAY: Father, thank You for helping us to see things properly.  Help us to discern if something has been given too great a platform within our life, or in our heart.  We love You Lord.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
