Who We Are In Christ Jesus

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

One of the greatest tools Satan will use upon every human being is untruth—he is a liar and the father of all lies (John 8:44).  If Satan can get us to believe his lies we will think and act in destructive ways.  One of the greatest lies we will deal with is our identity.  Even as Christians we can be tempted to believe things that are not true about whom we are once we have committed our lives to Jesus.

God’s Word is chock-full of Scriptures telling us who we are and what we have been given in Christ Jesus, and it is important for us to know these truths very well so we can take captive anything coming against these truths (2 Cor. 10:5).  With this in mind I wanted to provide a list of biblical truths and their corresponding Scriptures given to us by our Lord and Creator within our Bibles, so we can be armed to defend any lies making their way to our mind from Satan and his emissaries.  When you find yourself in Spiritual warfare (Eph. 6:10-18; 2 Cor. 10:3-5), just take a look at these truths contained within these verses and meditate upon them.

  • I am God’s child (John 1:12)
  • I am a saint (Eph. 1:18)
  • I am a disciple of Jesus (John 13:15)
  • I have been chosen to be His child before the creation of the world (Eph. 1:4, 11; Rom. 8:29)
  • I am Christ’s friend (John 15:15)
  • I have been redeemed through the blood of Jesus (Eph. 1:7-8)
  • I have been forgiven (Eph. 1:8; Col. 1:14)
  • I have been justified—declared righteous by God (Rom. 3:23-24; 5:1)
  • I belong to God (1 Cor. 6:20)
  • I am sealed with the promised Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13)
  • I am alive with Christ (Eph. 2:5)
  • I have access to the Father (Eph. 2:18)
  • I can approach God with freedom and confidence (Eph. 3:12)
  • I have been given hope (Heb. 10:23)
  • I am promised eternal life (John 6:47)
  • I am safe (John 10:28)
  • I am not alone (Heb. 13:5)
  • My body is a holy temple and a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit (Eph. 2:21-22; 1 Cor. 6:19)
  • I am prayed for by Jesus (John 17:20-23)
  • I am confident God will perfect His work in me (Phil. 1:6)
  • I can do all things through Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:13)
  • I can have a new attitude and lifestyle (Eph. 4:21-32)
  • I am more than a conqueror (Rom. 8:37)
  • I will overcome this world (1 John 5:4)
  • I am the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:21)
  • I am a light in the world (Matt. 5:14)

Even though we may feel defeated or worry in our Christian walk at times it is important for us to know how much God loves us.  He has chosen each of us before the foundations of the world and He is doing a work in our hearts and lives.  Knowing this should give us great hope and a renewed commitment to seek our Lord’s will for each situation we face.

I want to encourage you to meditate upon these Scriptures continually.  Let’s choose to learn God’s truth so we can be ready to defend the lies of enemy and never forget who we are in Christ Jesus.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, what should we be using our Bibles for?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you arming yourself with God’s truth continuously so you can detect and defend against the lies of Satan and his emissaries?

APPLICATION: Let’s keep our mind fixed upon Jesus and His Word so we can know His absolute truth.

LET’S PRAY: Father, thank You for giving us Your Word to light our path.  Help us to understand and remember what we have read, and empower us today to walk according to what we know to be right.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
