The Joy of Knowing God is Free

…Freely you have received, freely give. Matthew 10:8 (NKJV)

In a world of inflation where our money seems to buy less and less each day, I was reminded of something given to us freely—something so spectacularly wonderful—it is the gift of knowing God intimately.  We often focus on what we don’t have, but seldom on what we have been blessed with.  With this in mind I wanted to share a poem from The Daily Dose contributor Mary Hickman.  I believe her writing fully sums up what we have all been given, and it should be our prayer today.

Never Not

I came to You lost and abandoned oh Lord,
I had nothing left to give you, there was nothing left that my heart could afford.

You reached out, and in silence told me there was nothing you needed,
All you required was my willingness to be completed.

You only asked me to let you in,
Just to believe in You, let You in, so I could be redeemed from sin.

You asked me to trust in Your Holy Word,
So my vision would no longer be blurred.

You asked me to follow you, and obey,
So my ears would hear you call me home, and I would not go astray.

You asked me to testify to all mankind,
So that Your great mysteries could be understood by my very human mind.

All that You asked of me was free,
But the rewards were so priceless, I passed them on with passionate zealotry.

As I now stand firm and convicted in faith; I ask of You,
Let me never not be connected to Your wondrous love,
For it is this love, that has filled me with the knowledge of the dove.

Let me never not be connected to Your most Holy Word,
For knowledge of Your Word, keeps the absurd chaos of the evil one unheard.

Let me never not be connected to the path that leads me to You,
For if I am to follow in Your footsteps, then I need to see the road, so Your precepts I can pursue.

Let me never not be connected to Your divine majesty and glory.
For it is with these gifts I will write my one true story.

Dearest Lord, without my connection to You there is no light,
I would never have been able to spread my wings and take flight.

So as my spirit soars in the heavens,
My soul fills with a heavenly luminescence.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Matthew 10:8 what commandment did Jesus give His disciples?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you receiving all God wants to give to you?  Are you freely giving these things to others?

APPLICATION: Let's make it our goal to share what we have freely been given by our Lord.

LET'S PRAY: Father, thank You for Your many gifts upon our lives.  Thank You for Your love, mercy, and amazing grace.  Thank You for saving us from death.  Help us to share with others what we have been freely given.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
