The Retreat

And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. Mark 6:31 (NKJV)

We all get busy in life, but there are times in my own personal life when I get going so busy and I find myself longing for some time off to relax.  There’s nothing quite like when I unplug and turn off my phones and computer, and just allow myself to be fully rested, refreshed, and restored.

Taking time off each week so we can be refreshed physically is wise, as we will be better equipped to face challenges and be productive in our work.  Taking time off to be refreshed spiritually is even more important so we can be properly prepared to face the challenges each day brings our way.

Jesus knew the great importance of taking various opportunities to rest and spend time with His Father.  He also knew the importance of withdrawing from the multitudes so His disciples could rest as well, and He would take these times to speak into their lives and to pray. I believe He did this to give us an example to follow.

Each year we plan retreats at our church and we take time to unplug from our everyday lifestyle and to allow ourselves to be refreshed physically and spiritually.  God is always faithful to meet us at these retreats and every time I come home with great energy and a cleansed mind.  Satan knows how much we all will be blessed at these retreats so he and his emissaries do their best to discourage and distract us from going.  Great warfare is always present where God is doing a great work.

We are actually getting ready to have our men’s retreat here at Wildwood Calvary Chapel and I can already see the spiritual warfare beginning to increase in the lives of the men. Knowing this I am faithful to encourage the men to be prepared for these attacks and I remind them to stand fast against the trickery of the devil to discourage them from participating.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil…and having done all, to stand…Stand therefore Ephesians 6:11,13-14 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to pray about attending a retreat this year.  Seek the Lord and ask Him to guide you and to provide the resources for you to use to attend a women's or men’s retreat.  Tithe this time back unto the Lord and earnestly seek His will.  I promise you, God will meet you in the most powerful way, and you will find yourself truly blessed.

If you live in Southern California I would like to personally invite you, and encourage you to pray about joining our Men’s retreat this year on August 10th-12th at Calvary Chapel Conference Center in Murrieta Ca.  The theme for this year’s retreat is “Thy Will,” and I am excited for what God has in store.  If you would like more information about this retreat you can contact our church office at 909-790-0557 and ask for Christy, or go online to:  I look forward to seeing you.

STUDY QUESTION: In Mark 6:31 what can we see Jesus telling His disciples to do?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you taking time each day to spend time with the Lord so you can be refreshed?

APPLICATION: Let’s stand fast against the wiles of the devil and his emissaries to distract and discourage us from taking time to retreat.

LET’S PRAY:  Father, thank You for meeting us when we take the time to set aside for You.  Help us to see all the things we tend to put in front of You, and empower us to give You what is rightfully Yours.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
