10,000 Reasons
6/7/2012

I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalms 34:1 (NKJV)

There is a song on Christian radio, and it is one we sing at our church as well; it’s called, “10,000 Reasons.” I love it because the song brings me back to the true reason why we were created by God—to worship Him.

Worship can be defined as, to treat someone or something as deity—God, or a god—to have a devotion or love for something or someone.  Unfortunately, we often give God’s rightful place within our heart to someone or something else, but this should never be.   When this happens our hearts are turned and we are deceived into worshipping false gods.  We can see God warning His children of this in the book of Deuteronomy.

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess.”  Deuteronomy 30:15-18 (NKJV)

I find the easiest way to rectify these improperly prioritized affinities is to get my eyes back upon the Lord.  As I study His Word I learn much more about His character and love for me, and I cannot help but to love Him all the more.  As I listen to praise music, such as this song, 10,000 Reasons, I can come in agreement with the lyrics.  God is rich in love, and He is slow to anger; His name is great, and His heart is kind.  For all His goodness I will keep on singing, 10,000 reasons for my heart to find.

I can find myself singing from deep within my heart,

Bless the Lord, O my soul

O my soul

Worship His holy name

Sing like never before

O my soul

I'll worship Your holy name

Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Psalms 103:1 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to meditate upon these things today.  Let’s think upon all the wonderful things our Lord has done for us.  Let’s think upon all the amazing blessings He has bestowed upon us.  Let’s think about how much He loves us and how He has demonstrated His love by dying for us upon the cross of Calvary.  Let’s take time throughout the day to simply worship and adore Him—after all, we have 10,000 reasons.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Deuteronomy 30:15-18 what promises are we given by God?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: What do you find yourself worshipping most in your life?

APPLICATION: Let’s give God the worship He rightfully deserves.  Let’s keep our mind fixed upon the Lord.

Let’s Pray…

Father, we thank You for all You do and have done for us.   Father, forgive us for the times we have given our greater worship to other things or people.  We choose to give You our greatest worship today.  In Jesus’ precious name, amen…

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
