Submission Starts In The Heart

Submission Starts In The Heart
Submitting Unto God

I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel;  My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.  I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. Psalms 16:7-9 (NKJV)

Submission seems to be an ugly word to many people.  The thought of submitting to someone or something evokes an image of weakness to them.  We need to understand submission can be either good or bad—it depends to whom and what we submitting too.  If we submit to the temptations from the enemy through the fiery arrows (thoughts) he places within our head, then we will probably make poor choices and reap the consequences.  But, if we submit to what is proper and right by God, then we will be blessed.

I have used the analogy of our mind being a fuel filter and our heart being the engine.  The filtration of bad thoughts and lies can keep these impurities from making their way to our heart.  But if our heart is not wholly submitted to our Lord, then we will probably fail in sifting the dirt from our minds because we lack any real commitment to do so and we will find ourselves more committed to feeding the flesh.

Q:    What does this mean to us as Christian men and women?

It means if we are to be successful in allowing God to transform us to be like Jesus then we must give our heart fully unto the Lord—we cannot hold back anything.  As we choose to find our happiness in God alone we will find our heart changing and the desires we have will also change.  When this happens we will find our desires being met in Him.  This is where true lasting joy can be found.

Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalms 37:4 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to meditate upon these things today.  Let's choose to evaluate what is most important to us.  Let's choose to focus on our Lord and build our life upon His will today.

STUDY QUESTION: What can we learn from the Scriptures contained within this devotional with regard to our heart?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Do you attempt to find your happiness each day in Jesus?

APPLICATION: Let's take an inventory of anything in our lives we have put before our Lord.  Let's lay those things down today at His feet and give Him His rightful place in our heart.

Let's Pray…

Father, thank You for Your amazing love for us.  Father, we invite You to freshly fill us with Your Holy Spirit today.  We desire to give You the greatest place within our hearts today.  Show us anything we need to lay down—those things we have given greater value too.  In Jesus' precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
