What's Your Kryptonite?

What's Your Kryptonite?

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

Have you ever watched a superman show, or cartoon?  Anyone who has knows he is referred to as, "The Man of Steel."  Supposedly nothing could harm him except for a substance known as "Kryptonite."  Kryptonite came from the planet Krypton, Superman (Alias Clark Kent) came from.  As the story goes the planet exploded and these green chunks Kryptonite went flying through the galaxy.

In essence this kryptonite would make him weak, powerless and even lead to his death if he continued to be subject to it.   Those who were evil knew this and they would use this Kryptonite to attempt to destroy him.

I don't know about you but it sounds a lot like Satan to me.  Satan and his emissaries are attacking every one of us each and every day.  I believe they watch and study us to determine what they believe is our kryptonite—those things tempting to us, the things causing us to become weak and stumble in our faith.

Q:    What is your kryptonite?  What causes you to take your eyes off of Jesus and makes you weak in your walk with God?

Now thankfully for Superman he had one thing allowing him to be protected against Kryptonite, and it was lead.  The lead would shield him as long as he kept it between him and Kryptonite.

As Christian men and women, we can be encouraged to know we have been given a shield to defend us against those things threatening to our Christian walk—it is called, "The Shield of Faith."

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand…above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Ephesians 6:13, 16 (NKJV)

With such a shield believers can extinguish all the fire-starting darts flung by the devil—those lies tempting us to believe we will be better off if we act upon the temptation.  When we utilize our Shield of Faith we will be able to counteract these lies and put out the flames to prevent them from spreading into our mind and heart.  In addition to this Shield of Faith, we have been given great power in Christ Jesus.

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you to meditate upon these things today.  Let's choose to utilize our Shield of Faith throughout each day.  Let's choose to use the power of the Holy Spirit to trample on anything tempting us to do evil.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Luke 10:19 what have we been given by Jesus?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: What is your Kryptonite

APPLICATION: Let's choose to fix our eyes upon the One who can empower us to overcome any temptation, rather than fixing our eyes on the temptation.

Let's pray…

Father, thank You for giving us the power to overcome the wiles and temptations of the evil one.  Help us to see Your truth and will in everything we face today.  In Jesus' precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
