I Choose
To Be Like A Tree You Planted by Living Water

I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. Psalms 119:15 (NKJV)

If you were a tree and you could choose to be any type and be planted anywhere you wanted, what would you be and where would you choose to be planted?  Would you be a large Redwood Pine tree in the mountains so you could overlook all the valleys below?  Would you be a beautiful Palm tree with long lines curving towards the setting sun in the Pacific Ocean?  Would you be a Fruit Tree snugly nestled in a country grove, next to a babbling brook?

Well as funny as these questions may sound they actually give us a very good picture of what God has offered us in a way of a promise of security and productivity in our Christian walk.  We are told in God's Word how we can be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, and we are also assured we will bring forth fruit.

But this promise was given to a particular type of person—It was one who chose not to listen to the counsel of ungodly people, or who chose not to hang out with those who were committed to living in disobedience.  This promise was made to those who enjoyed living in obedience to God's Word, and who would think about it continually.

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. Psalms 1:1-4 (NKJV)

The roots of a tree planted by a river of water will be firmly anchored into the soil where they simply allow the water to pass over them and feed them.  They flourish and do not wither, and their fruit is in abundance.

Now picture yourself strongly anchored into God and allowing the water of His Word to wash over you.  As we are faithful to do this we will find we do not wither when it gets hot in the midst of our trials, and we will also have abundant fruit in our Christian walk.

Here is the truth of it all—It is our choice where we are planted. It will be the difference of abundant life, or an unhealthy, withered Christian walk lacking God's water.  Lord, I choose to be like a tree planted by the water.

I want to encourage you today to meditate upon these things.  Let's make a choice as to where we will allow our hearts and minds to be planted.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Psalm 1:1-4 what is the outcome of our meditating upon God's Word day and night?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Where will you choose to be planted?

APPLICATION: Let's choose to be planted as close to God as possible.  Let's allow His Word to feed us living water.

Let's Pray…

Father, we love You and we thank You for Your Word.  Lord, it is our heart to allow You to feed us as we read Your Word.  Help us to produce abundant fruit in our Christian walk Lord.  In Jesus' precious name, amen…

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott

This devotional is dedicated to my friend and brother in Christ, Andrew Enos, who gave me the inspiration to write this by his song, Planted.  This song is amazing and it is available here: http://www.amazon.com/Planted/dp/B006NB6YIC
