Crossing The Jordan

Crossing The Jordan
How To Find Strength & Courage

Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. Joshua 1:7 (NKJV)

In the Book of Joshua we can see one of the greatest examples of faith, strength, and courage within the Bible.  It is the story of Joshua leading the Israelites across  the Jordan River.  It took great faith to be obedient to the Lord's command to cross this river as it was at crest flood stage.  Every thought of fear and doubt would have to be taken captive.

I think each and every one of us should read and meditate upon this story because each of us will be called to cross our own personal Jordan.  It won't be an actual river, but it will be just as challenging.  For some of us our Jordan is financial crisis we just can't imagine getting beyond.  Every day we get bills and we face them and they can loom larger than life.  For others it may be a rocky relationship; we cannot seem to see past the seemingly unconquerable problems, and we are having a problem of simply being obedient to what God has called us to do.

Truth is it can be an illness, an issue at work, or just about any number of things we will face causing us to doubt, become anxious, or fear.  When we come upon these "Jordon crossings" in our life we must seek the Lord's will for the proper path we are to take and then we are to simply start walking forward.  We must focus on the Lord and trust in Him and in His perfect plan for the situation and be confident He will lead us through whatever we are facing.  This is how the Lord works in our life; it is how He tests us and perfects our faith and character, and when we respond in obedience it shows we truly love Him.

"If you love Me, keep My commandments&He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." John 14:15, 21 (NKJV)

It is important for us to believe and remember, God is on the throne.  As we do we will have the strength and courage to face the tough trials and tests with a greater trust, confidence, and peace.  We will be more relaxed and look for opportunities to be used in the midst of our challenges rather than being consumed with doubt, worry, and fear.

I want to encourage you today to meditate upon these truths.  No matter what you may be facing in your life, choose to place your faith in God's sovereignty, protection, provision, and His leading.  Start walking right through your Jordon and watch God begin to work.

STUDY QUESTION: According to John 14:15, 21 how can we show our love to God?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Will you show God how much you love Him today no matter what you may be facing?

APPLICATION: Let's do our part by being obedient, regardless of how anyone responds to our actions.  We are doing this as unto the Lord (Col. 3:17, 23; 1Cor. 10:31).

Let's Pray...

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your love, protection and guidance in our lives.  Father, we are sorry for the times we have doubted and become fearful when facing things we feel our impassible.  Help us in our unbelief and fill us with Your wisdom.  It is our heart to be obedient to Your word and to submit to Your will for our lives today.  We trust You and we love You.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be blessed, Pastor Scott
