Hearing The Familiar Voice of God

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Fathers hand.  I and My Father are one." John 10:27-30 (NKJV)

Jesus says His disciples can hear His voice and they follow Him.

Q:    How do we hear Jesus voice, and how can we know it is His?

We can always discern His voice, because it delivers a peace; one permeating our whole mind and soul.  We can hear His voice and become calm in the midst of a storm.  We can hear His voice and become strong at a time when we are normally weak.  And we can hear His voice and have a quiet stillness; one evoking a sense of safety and wellbeing regardless of what we may be facing in our future.

Jesus speaks to us through His Word as He guides our every action and choice. He calls us and we choose to listen or to ignore.  He calls all and asks us to entrust our soul and life into His hands. If we are believers then we have answered His Calling and we have become a part of His sheepfold; we have committed to follow Him and walk in newness of life.

Unfortunately there are times when we choose not to follow Jesus and in our disobedience we go astray.  We can find ourselves caught in the thicket of sin.  We can find ourselves all alone and away from the safety of the sheepfold.  During these times, we cry out like bleating sheep to a faithful Shepherd.  As we do this then He will be faithful to come loosen us from the things ensnaring us.

The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. Psalms 145:18 (NKJV)

So we are given choices every day as Christian men and women, and our actions will determine what our choices were.  We must ask ourselves these basic questions each morning as we rise before we are in the midst of the temptations.
  • Is it my desire to follow my Lord?
  • Is it my desire to do His will for each situation?
  • Am I willing to be led by the Lord, as a Shepherd leads his sheep?
If you answered, "Yes" to these questions, then I want to encourage you today.  Let's keep calling our Great Shepherd to lead us in every thought, choice, and action we will make.  Let's continue to open our Bibles and read them so we can hear the familiar voice of God. Let's seek Him to free us from the bondage of those things we have found ourselves enslaved to.

STUDY QUESTION: According to John 10:27-30 what does Jesus assure us of?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you following Jesus with everything that you have; with your life, your heart, and every part of your being?

APPLICATION: Let's choose to stay close to our Lord.  Lets choose to stay in the sheepfold.

Father, Thank You for leading me in every aspect of my life.  Help me to continue to follow You in all Your ways.  Keep talking to me as I read Your word.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
