The Tools of God
The Oracles of God

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Have you ever found yourself wanting to do some sort of project but you didn't have the proper tools?  I know I have, and I have found it can be very frustrating.  I find myself loving to do various projects around the house.  It can be landscaping, cleaning windows or just about anything.  To do these projects I need to have good tools available to use, and so I have always invested in them and have a great selection to do what needs to be done.

I find this principle to be true in ministry as wellwe need the proper tools if we are going to be able to do the job our Lord has called us to do.  Thankfully, where God guides God provides, so He has given us these great tools along with a helper to direct and guide us in using them.

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever John 14:16 (NKJV)

I believe the best tool provided to us is the Bible.   I speak of it often and am continually emphasizing the importance of our reading it daily so we can be transformed by the renewing of our mind; it's what keeps us from being conformed to the ways of this world (Rom. 12:1-2).  We are told the word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb. 4:12).

We are told all Scripture is given by inspiration of God (2 Tim. 3:16).  The phrase, given by inspiration of God is derived from the Greek adjective, theopneustos, theh-op´-nyoo-stos, which is a combination of two other Greek words: Theos (God) and Pneo (breathe).  So all Scripture is "God-breathed."  We can see in 2 Peter how God inspired man to write His truth through the Holy Spirit.

...for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21 (NKJV)

Q:    How should having the word of God impact our lives everyday?

  • It should radically change us and conform us to His perfect will.
  • It should give us a firm understanding of God's truth for our doctrinal beliefs and enable us to detect false doctrine.
  • It should guide us through everything we face in our lives.
  • It should be a teacher to us and enable us to disciple our family and others in the ways of Jesus.
  • It should help us to rebuke the sinful temptations of the enemy, as it is our only offensive weapon (Eph. 6:17).

I want to encourage you today to be disciplined in reading your Bible everyday.  Every time you read you are equipping yourself with new tools to do every good work.  Having the right tool for the job at hand is the difference in being successful.  If we are to be successful in our Christian walk then we must be prepared by being equipped with the tools of God.

STUDY QUESTION: According to 2 Timothy 3:16-17 what is Scripture profitable for?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you reading your Bible daily?

APPLICATION: Give God the firstfruits of your time by starting your day in His Word.  God will redeem this time and you will be blessed.

Father, thank You for giving us Your Word to guide and lead us.  Thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit as a helper to understand Your Word.  Help me today to understand and apply everything I read in Your Word.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
