Jesus & The Living Fountain of His Word
At the Center of It All

for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Revelation 7:17 (NKJV)

Have you ever heard the expression, "At the center of it all"?  It is an old expression depicting the potential cause of something, or what is behind the motives of a person's actions, and it could be used to refer to someone who is at the center of a movement or project.  It is kind of like the energy behind something - a force keeping things going in a particular direction.

As Christian men and women this energy and force is Jesus because it is He who is at the center of it all when it comes to our lives.  It is Jesus who makes up the core of our beliefs -  beliefs empowering our God-honoring actions. It is Jesus who showed us how to live and to conduct ourselves - how to love selflessly by laying down our lives for our others.  He is the center of our whole existence; He's right in the middle of our lives.

As Jesus hung on the cross of Calvary being crucified to pay for the sins of the lost, it was almost prophetic to see Him at the center of it all as He was in the middle of two thieves.  One thief chose to accept and believe in Him as the other mocked and ridiculed Him.  To the thief who believed, Jesus told him, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43).   The other thief who mocked would start a different journey this same day - his would be an existence of eternal spiritual death and separation.

The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.  He who has ears to hear, let him hear! Matthew 13:41-43 (NKJV)

God will use everything in our life to guide us, correct us, and lead us into eternity with Him. We must understand there are no coincidences when we have God in our life.  God is exacting in every detail, and His Word is an example of this as it is the light unto our path and it illuminates His perfection. The Bible has been given to us to guide us so we would know God's will for our life (Rom. 12:1-2).   Let's take a look at a couple of facts about the Bible so we can see the intricacy and exactness of God's detail.

  • There are 66 books in the Bible
  • The shortest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 117.
  • The longest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 119.
  • And the exact center of the Bible is Psalm 118.
  • There are 594 chapters before Psalm 118 and,
  • 594 chapters after Psalm 118
  • If you add the 594 books before Psalm 118 and the 594 after it totals 1188.  Not just a random number, because;
  • The center verse of the entire bible is Psalm 118:8

Psalm 118:8 is no coincidence as it points to a scripture containing a great piece of wisdom we can all live by as well because this verse says something significant about God's perfect will for our lives?

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. Psalms 118:8 (NKJV)

The next time someone says they would like to find God's perfect will for their lives or they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center of his Word - the living fountain of the water of life.

STUDY QUESTION: What does Psalm 118:8 tell us about trusting in the Lord?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you placing all of your trust in God alone for your provision, your protection, and your salvation?

APPLICATION: Place Jesus at the center of it all.  Make everything in your life glorify Him.

Father, thank You for allowing Your son to come down and take on the form of a man to educate us and to share Your perfect and simple will for our lives.  I choose to keep Jesus at the center of my life, and to share the gospel with others.  I pray You will continue to give me Your spirit in full measure and allow me to be a part of Your ministry.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
