If We Are The Body

If We Are The Body

For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, Romans 12:4 (NKJV)

It blows my mind to look out at all the people in the world and to know no two people are the same - each is unique.  Every human being is similar yet very different - from the color of hair, to the shape of their teeth, to the very DNA in their body.  What blows my mind is God says we are many members but we are actually one body as Christian believers.  We were created to work together to accomplish His goals.  Romans tells us this very fact as it says we are all members but we do not have the same function (Rom. 12:4).

Q:    Have you ever thought about how God wants to use you?

There is a song by Casting Crowns titled If we are the body and it is what inspired me to write this devotional. The premise of the song is if we are in fact the body of Christ, then why aren't His arms reaching out to help others? Why aren't His words teaching the people who need to know about Him?  Why isn't His love showing others there is a way?

The band is right when they say in this song; "Jesus paid much too high a price for us to pick and choose who should come to know Him."

The truth is we need to ask God how He wants to use us each day - what part of the body do you want me to function as Lord?  God may have given each of us an ability to do something very unique and special or He may have simply given us the capacity to be good servants - it doesn't matter.  What matters is our willingness to be used.  Jesus speaks very highly of our being willing to serve.

If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor. John 12:26 (NKJV)

I want to encourage you today to think about ways you might be able to be used by God.  We must remember we are a part of the body of Christ and can be used to do great and wondrous things.  Our value is not limited to our talents or in our possessions - it is in our servants heart.  If we are simply willing to be a productive part of the body then the body will be that much healthier.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Jesus, what will God do for those who serve Jesus?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to be a healthy part of the body of Christ - willing to be used by God?

APPLICATION: Let God know you are willing to be used today.

Father, thank You for allowing me to be a part of the body of Christ.  Help me to see the opportunities today to serve others as if I was serving You.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
