The Power of God

The Power of God

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Romans 1:16 (NKJV)

If there was one thing Rome could be boastful about it was their power.  They ruled the world at the time when the Apostle Paul wrote this Scripture.   One of their most visible forms of power was their vast army - both in Rome and stationed throughout the world.

Even though Rome possessed this vast about of power it wasn't capable of eradicating the rampant sin permeating their entire culture - sin leading to eternal death.  The Apostle Paul's message claimed to be able to do something unattainable by the mightiest of men - combat and cover the sin, cure their eternal death sentence, and introduce them to the One who would give them eternal life.  It was no wonder Paul was not ashamed to speak so boldly about God to this culture.

When we read this we might become complacent to this message encouraging us to share the gospel because we have heard many times before.   We must guard ourselves against this temptation to be apathetic though because many lives are at stake.  Think for a moment about the dreaded disease of Cancer - more specifically about how many people will die this year because of it.  The facts show more than a half of a million people will perish.  Knowing this, I would like to propose a question.

Q:    If you had a cure for Cancer would you be willing to share it with others?

I am sure every person reading this answered yes to this question.  In fact, some might think this is a silly question, but it is not.    The fact of the matter is according to the C.I.A. Factbook in 2005 they estimated 56,597,034 people die each year annually.  Now I don't know how many of these people actually have a relationship with Jesus Christ, but I do know Jesus spoke about it being few in comparison to how many people there are.

Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Matthew 7:14 (NKJV)

So if we had a cure for cancer and were willing to share it so others might live a few years longer here on earth, then why wouldn't we be willing to shout from the rooftops about Jesus Christ to everyone we could knowing this could save lives for all of eternity?

I want to encourage you today to ask God to give you the boldness to share Jesus with someone.  Ask God to bring them into your life and provide an opportunity to share His love with them.  When you think about it you really don't have anything to lose, but it could be life-saving to them.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Romans 1:16, what was the Gospel message powerful enough to accomplish when shared?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you willing to share Jesus with others today?

APPLICATION: Pray for God to provide an opportunity to share the love of Christ with someone today.

Father, thank You for loving me enough to bring someone into my life to share You with me.  Help me to share Jesus with someone today Lord.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...

Be Blessed, Pastor Scott
