A Bumper Crop

A Bumper Crop

"f you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them, then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit." Leviticus 26:4 (NKJV)

I was talking with my friend Frank the other day and he was sharing with me how he and our friend Tom were sharing war stories about their fruit trees.  It seems they both battle various elements attacking their fruit and destroying it just before it is ready to be picked.  It could be the birds, or ground squirrels, ants or a variety of things but the outcome is the same - damaged and destroyed fruit.

As I thought about their battle I couldn't help but think how this happens to every one of us as Christians.   Each of us should be producing God's fruit in our lives, as it is a byproduct of a healthy spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)

Just as the fruit on the trees is ravaged leaving it devoid of any worth, so the enemy attacks our very lives in many ways in an attempt to rob us of our fruit.  Satan knows if he can steal our love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness and self-control then we will be as useless as a barren fruit tree.  He knows if there is no fruit in our lives then there can be no evidence of our relationship with Jesus.  In essence we may then have an outward appearance of godliness but we are actually denying its power (2 Tim. 3:5).

Q:    How can we guard ourselves against the attacks of the enemy attacks damaging to the fruit of our spirit?

God has given us His answer to this question within His Word.  In Leviticus 26:4 we are told by Him, if we walk in His statutes and keep His commandments He will refresh us with His water and we will yield fruit.  So, the best way to guard ourselves against the enemy's attack is to be pro-aggressive in our walk with God by reading our Bibles each and every day.

As we read we are strengthening the soil of our heart and feeding it rich nutrients so as to produce good fruit.  As we put on our protective armor (Eph. 6:11-18) we are protected against the trickery and deceit of the enemy's lies.  As we take every thought captive through the filter of our mind we can catch any diseased thought before it can cause damage.  As we walk in obedience to God's word we will be blessed with a bumper crop.

I want to encourage you today to cultivate your heart and prepare it to receive the seed of God's Word.  I want to encourage you to stand fast against the enemy and to be ready to defend against his subtle attacks of compromise.  Do not fear for He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world.  Walk in faith today.

STUDY QUESTION: According to Galatians 5:22 what type of fruit should be abundant in our lives as Christian believers?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Can you see the fruit of the spirit in your life?  Can you see where the enemy is attacking and damaging this fruit?

APPLICATION: Take action against any attacks occurring in your life today by seeking the Lord in prayer.  Choose to focus on God and trust in Him.  Obey His Word and walk in faith.  God will reverse any damage and begin to produce new fruit immediately.

Father, thank You for producing fruit in my spirit and in my life.  Help me to stand against the wiles of the devil today and to acknowledge every area where he is tempting me to compromise.  In Jesus' precious name, amen...
